Sirius Reception

I am in CT and thinking about getting the sirius radio installed my suby. I am wondering what the reception is like for anyone who has it built in. I know the reception on the radios when they are not integrated is questionable because I used to have one. Thanks.

I have a Sirius for almost 5 years with nill problems. I have added to all my cars with no problems. If you are adding it to your car make sure you buy the FM modulator, the only problem is that you have to buy two antenna adpaters.

I used to drive all over CT for work, never lost reception except in tunnels.

Mine is oem and fairly poor reception wise. The antenna was installed a bit to close to the headliner I think. I believe if you have it installed correctly it will work better than what I've experienced. Correctly = leaving 30mm of space around the antenna from the headliner and pillar.

I won't be using the fm transmitter because it is the OEM that I am thinking of installing so it should be directly connected to the headunit, so that should eliminate that fm static. My concern is about constantly losing the signal. I had sirius a number of years back and i kept losing the signal - is it any better now than it used to be?

rtbrjason - do you have the antenna behind the rearview mirror or off to the side? I'm not sure where to put it. Where do you recommend?

It should be the in the upper corner of the passenger side with 30mm of clearance all around it. I'm eventually going to un-stick mine and reposition it down a bit as whoever installed mine must have missed that part of the instructions.

The first is a view from the drivers seat. You can see the wire a bit in the close up shot but you really have to get in there to see it. As per the instructions mine needs to move down a bit in which case you might see a bit more of the wire, but it shouldn't be noticeable from the driver seat.

So I had mine installed yesterday. Haven't had much time to play with it yet. The dealer called in an audio specialist from a local shop apparently to do the install. Here are some pics:

I don't think it's much further down at all. I just measured (i only had a ruler) .3 inches down from the headliner. Quick conversion says that's about 8mm down. I'll have to let you know if it is causing any reception problems as I get to play with it a bit more. Where did you read about the 30mm rule? Let me know if you do go ahead and reposition it for better reception, I'm interested to see the result.
