ProV1
my 09 legacy SE came with 17inch wheels and 205 width tires i think. what is the smallest size tire that will work on this car? will 15inch or 16inch work? what sizes? thanks!
ilh
In 2005, the base Legacy had 16-inch wheels with 205/55R16 tires. I would guess that would work on a 2009 SE since I don't believe its brakes are as large as GT brakes (which generally require 17-inch wheels). Not as big as the GT, but they did require the 17" wheels. There are some 16" wheels that will work, but I do not know which ones.
ilh
2009 Service Manual lists the following as having "16-inch" type brakes: 2.5i, -BASE, -LTD, 3.0R, Outback 2.5i, -BASE, -LTD, -LLB, Outback 3.0R-LTD, Outback 2.5XT-LTD. Only the 2.5GT-LTD, 3.0R-LTD, and 2.5GT-B are listed as having "17-inch" type brakes. The "16-inch" rotors are listed as 24x294mm as opposed to the "17-inch" rotors 30x316mm. It lists 16x6.5 wheels available for the Canadian 2.5i models, whereas the US models get the 17x7 wheels, yet the brake dimensions appear the same. I think the 2009 SE can take 16-inch wheels, but it would be worth checking with Subaru. TireRack lists 16-inch wheels for the 2009 2.5i SE.
