Golf4283
So I have been looking at the tire sizing guide and it doesn't state whether the rims are 8" wide or 7" so I thought I would make a post to try and get the information I need. I just got two flat tires from a pothole and my new rims are ready to go. I have a set of 18x8" rota Torques and I need to know what size tire I can run where I don't have to worry about the speedo being out of whack. I dont know how tall and Wide I can fit also. Please some insight as my brand new car is out of commission now. Thanks
Golf4283
Also I'm going with the BFG Gforce KDW's and I think they don't come in 45 tall sizes so would a 235/40/18 give me a good choice on my 3.0R. I really don't want the speedo to get all screwed up. I'm running a stock suspension for now so clearance shouldn't be too bad an issue.
bradlgt21
http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=68297&postcount=1 Copied from the above thread 215mm = 6.5", 7", 7.5" and 8" 225mm = 7", 7.5", and 8" 235mm = 8", 8.5", and 9" 245mm = 8", 8.5", and 9" 18 in. rims (for Spec B.2006-on, 3.0Rs 2008-on): 225/40/18 (common tire to use and gives a better acceleration since it's 0.5" shorter) 235/40/18 (rare size to find, but near stock height for proper gearing) 245/40/18 (popular tire size for the larger cars) So any of the above sizes will fit on your 18x8 As for width look, 225 sits flat with the rim and 245 bubbles out. I have 225's on my LGT on the same rims as you have and like it.
Golf4283
Yea That's the post I'm talking about. I just want an answer. Not pointing me to something I don't understand.
bradlgt21
I edited now so I hope it makes more sense. The first set of numbers is the width of the tire or the first number in the tire size 225/xx/xx. So they are saying with 8 inch wheels you can go anywhere from 215-245. The second set of numbers is his recommendations and overall tire sizes including sidewall and everything. Those 3 are the closest to stock and you will be ok running them. Just understand that when you change from the stock tire size your speedo will not be 100% accurate but unless you change a lot you shouldn't have a problem. Pretty much you have three options of tire sizes 225/40/18, 235/40/18, and 245/40/18. I would suggest the 225 for looks but for your speedo being the most acurate I would go with the 245's. bradlgt21
Here is a good link to find out how different the tire is and how much it will effect your speedo. Just put in what the stock tire size is and then which tire size you are thinking about running. it will tell you how off it will be. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
Golf4283
Great thanks. I was actually leaning towards the 235's so maybe that's a happy medium. My mustang has 245's and they do bubble out a bit.
bradlgt21
Yeah good call. Plus with 245's you might have to worry about them being so wide you would need to roll the fenders. If you are on stock springs you should be fine but lowering would make 245's rub most likely.
lawl
235/40 rub on my car. it's lowered 225/40 do not. rubbing is bad. car for sale. PM me!

cfdrumr
I just threw Federal 595ss 225/40 on my 18x8 Rotas...no rubbing, look wide...good enough for me.
fweasel
hmm. So you guys think 225/40s? I put 225's on my 18x8 summer wheels and they have never rubbed. 235's did. I'm lowered on Ions. Regardless, I have never missed the extra tire width vs. the security of never having to worry about my tires being cut. ignore him, he'll go away. caramall2
I have the KDW 2 (with the funky tread pattern) and they have held up incredibly well, even after about 20k. I took them to a two-day track event and they were great (and I drove them quite hard). They're solid in the dry, solid in the wet. They've worn very evenly (I've rotated them of course, and set significant front camber at the track (I have coilovers)). Weakness? Very noisy for some, just a little noisy for others (like me). If noise doesn't become an issue for you, I think you'll like them.
Golf4283
I have them on now and noise hasn't been a problem at all. maybe I'm just a lucky one running them. I'll get some shots up of my car when I can detail it cause these rims are hot.
