screw Rallying - anyone here AutoX ??

Before my previous car was totalled, i was looking forward to doing some autocross races in the spring -- But now with the larger, heavier legacy (although, much more powerful + awd) I'm wondering how it will stack up.

I have no doubt it's still a very compitent car going around the turns (once you replace the re92's ;) ) But i'd love to hear some other members experiences from out on the track.

:)

haha.. well i learnd to drive on a honda and your avatar offends me. ;)

How does the RX-8 do.. I've heard it really makes up in handling what it lacks in power. It was on my list of cars to consider when i got my LGT -- but in the end i just liked the legacy more than anything thing else out there.

2004 Subaru Challenge - 2nd place STU

I have about 400+ miles (about 15 to 20 events a year) logged for autocrossing from the past 5 years and about 30 hours of track time (or about 800+ miles) logged driving WRX and the Legacy GT combined for the past 2.5 years...

So what do you want to know?

HAHA....very good. LMAO

The Rx-8 did make up 10 fold with the handling in stock class. Really, there is no better handling car in it's class under 30K. But I have sold it 2 weeks ago....still morning.

OBAMA......One Big Ass Mistake America!

I only need suspension parts, power can come later. I build my car for race specs, so there's only so much you can do with power mods.. an STi is a better choice to have in STU, but I want to prove that the GT can do just as well. Only people I am worried about in STU class are the E36 M3s and the STis running the same tires as I am.. but we'll see how this year goes, it sure beats running in ESP against the STi on Hoosiers. I do all the work on my car, I can't stand other people touching my car unless I am supervising for help.. I am anal like that.

My team has the schedule listed for 2005 shortly:

http://www.salazar-racing.com/events.cfm

or use http://www.autocrossers.org for more info. SCCA-WDCR events are held on Sundays at Fed Ex Field. There's a lot of places, clubs and events to post all in one shot since I havent even got the chance to update my calendar of all the events I am going to attend.. I think it's going to be somewhere around 25+ event this year on Autocrossing alone, at least 4 track days of which one of them is at http://www.virclub.com and other is at Summit Point Raceway trying to earn some credits towards becoming a BSR (Bill Scott Racing) Instructor at Summit Point.

All Solo2 classes have a Novice class you can compete in. Most of the time there is someone always available for instructional ride-alongs if you want (which is recommended) and I am more than happy to give you a ride in my GT for instructions of how to Autox. I think the Novice coordinator Brian Garfield can help you out for driving tips if you want, but again, I can also sit in with you since he taught me quite a bit when he hosts his autox schools.

Keefe definitely is our resident AutoX king of the mountain so to speak around here. Any questions, he's the top guy to ask.

I've got about um, I think 6 or so events ran with double that worked.

I like my AutoX, want to try track day sometime, really like my group drive/touring events too. :)

During the off-season now, I head over to http://www.allsportsgp.com in Sterling (just off of Dulles Town Center near where Route 28 and Route 7 intersect) for some go-karting practice.. these arent your typical go-karts and the place has a race suite and helmet for you to use (part of the fees and it's mandatory) when you run there.

I'll see you down there some time.. I am usually there on the weekends practicing my lines and getting ready for the season.

Awesome-- I might go check that out this weekend.

I dont know if you've ever flown in or out of dulles -- but thier is a small road course set up around where rt.50 and 28 intersect just south of the airport.- I've been trying for a while to find out what it is but haven't been able to find anything out about it.

Do you know anymore information on this track? I"m here in Reston and wouldn't mind checking it out.
thats just it - i know nothing of this track other than it looks like it's on airport property. (it is about 1/2 a mile to the east of the new air and space museum).. I really would like to find out more though, becuase if it is open to the public i'd love to go check it out.

i'm hoping somebody out there knows more about it.

edit - looking at the map, it looks pretty easy to get too - second right off of rt.50 after 28. Maybe i'll take a drive out there this weekend to check it out.
