MAF Voltage question

Recommended Posts

I'm a n00b when it comes to tuning and any upgrades that go past stage 2. I'm hoping some of you experienced folks can help me out...

I have the option of a CAI with stock MAF or one that is 74mm.

Question is... which should I choose?

Would the car be driveable to the tuner if the 74mm version was selected while running on a stage 2 map?

My upgrades that I plan on installing...

Cobb Accessport

APS headers

FP 20g

Cobb catted DP

Prodrive BCS

WBR FMIC

TGV delete

DW 750 injectors

Walbro fuel pump

From these threads it seems like I would be good with getting the stock size MAF with a WBR FMIC and a 20g rather than the larger 74mm. Anyone else have some input or suggestions?

I want to make sure I get the right size MAF for my setup.

A 20g maxxed out is gonna get pretty close to maxing out the MAF, at least if it is the size of an AEM CAI.

That being said, the stock size MAF housing is 70mm IIRC, and an aftermarket one that is actually 70mm (which is bigger then the AEM I believe) should be OK.

It it were me I would get the bigger MAF housing. You know for sure that it will support your power levels.

I think the car will start, and then stumble around for a bit until it learns the AFR a bit for the 74mm intake. Then I think it would likely drive OK (moderate to slow driving only) to get to a tuner.

I am sure others have more experience though.

You will likely max the MAF with anything equal to or smaller than the AEM with a 20G at greater than 20psi. On cool days I pegged the MAF at 5 volts several times and received a CEL for my troubles.

The AVO has given me some much needed headroom - I now max at about 4.78 or 4.80 volts.

The AVO will be fine for the FP Green or bollt on GT30. If you go with a true rotated GT30t6 you will need a custom rotated fitment intake anyways.

I think AVO intake it is for me then, FPgreen, i think has better spool, and power diff between the GT30 is not that far apart.
