Here is a link to a VWVortex thead that has some pictures of different tires on different wheels.

I guess it's a trend to stretch the sidewall out as far as you can...

A little hard to see but...

Factory rims are 18x7 if memory serves right, on the same rims with the narrowish oem tire stepping to a 18x8 might be counter productive if your goal is improved handling.

We are talking very small difference though, not a night and day difference like going from the normal LGT RE92 all season tire to something classified as Ultra high Performance Summer tire

sorry 18x7 is correct.

the 08 spec b came with summer only tires. my goal is not to improve handling, it is to save money and get a nicer rim that could use my existing tires (so im not out the brand new tires i have)

the rims i want only come in 18x7.5 or 18x8 size and id really like to use my tires

if you stick to 7.5" you probably would never be able to notice the difference

if you go to 8" the same is probably true but IMHO you can sell the old rims and tires as a package (especially if they are low mileage) and just step up to a 225 or 235 tire

I'm going to reserve my opinion on stretched tires leaving my thoughts as: It looks stupid and is potentially dangerous.

These are the same people that choose one brand of coilovers over another because "it lets me slam it" and then complain that they can't drive their cars anywhere ...

haha that is so true,

my right rear has a bit of road rash (the set has less than 7000kms) thats the life of my car right now 6500 on the odometer (km) so i mean the tires are still 98% tread, and one of the rims is scratched

i was also thinking id get 18" winter nokian tires for my stock rims

I don't know the specifics of the spec-b off hand but my opinion is that (assuming they fit) you'd be better served ordering a set of 17" steelies for those winter tires possibly in a 205 width or whatever tirerack reccomends.

My tires arrived yesterday and today I brought the rims and tires to get mounted and balanced... hopefully I'll get them on there tomorrow or Friday!

Do you guys think I should get an alignment, since I am increasing the overall diameter of my tires?

Thanks,

Mark

You do not need a alignment for just a wheel / tire swap.

If its been more than a couple of years since the last one it could not hurt though since there's a chance there may be some correction needed.

No... I just had it aligned a month or two ago when I had the saggy butt shims installed on the rear strut mounts!
