Vsick
Finnally went stage2 today....got the following installed: Stock STI UP Megan Catless Downpipe Cobb APV2 stage 2 base map I didn't realize this until the installer told me, but my stock cbe has a doughnut flange and the megan has a flat flange. He ended up just using a doughnut gasket and wrenched the hell out of it and stuck some silicone in there. He told me there is a potential for a leak in the future and my options were to: Buy a aftermarket cbe with the flat flange. Bring car to a muffler shop to have them do it. I want to avoid buying a cbe exhaust because I do not want the extra noise. My question is.....any of you guys done the muffler shop approach? Or was it not even needed because the doughnut to flat is holding up quite well.
TPLGT
I have a MR DP and had no issues with the flange..this is the first I have heard that the flanges were different. Rehab is for quitters.
Vsick
Yeah they are definitely different. I have my stock dp in my trunk and it is a doughnut style. The MR is a flat style. Did you install yours TPLGT? or did you have a shop do it?

AKLGT
here are some pics from my install. don't mind the big dent in the MR dp because this is an MT one and I have an EAT. We had to make do with what we had for the time being... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v384/trdvibe/Downpipe%20July%2007/100_0803.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v384/trdvibe/Downpipe%20July%2007/100_0808.jpg Wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle yeah!!! BlackHole
I want to avoid buying a cbe exhaust because I do not want the extra noise. You could buy just a set of mid/Y pipes (like XO2 or Perrin) and retain the stock mufflers. Barely louder than stock and have the flat flange. Vsick
AKLGT, Thanks for the pics.....so you are not getting any leak from that connection? I was thinking about removing the springs and just getting bolts and nuts to mate the two pieces together. There won't be any give though because of the lack of springs. Blackhole...i will look into that. If I can get a flat flange welded on for 30 bucks from the local muffler shop then I will just go that route. AKLGT
it was only on there for a short period of time, like a month? and I forgot, that's not with the stock CBE, it's an SPT CBE. however, the donut gasket is the same. but as blackhole suggested, you could always go with a y-pipe and keep the stock mufflers. I plan to do the same on the 08 STI. I want to keep the stock mufflers. Wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle yeah!!!
MonkeyHermit
You guys should check this out ---> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=018&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=280210808193&rd=1 It goes between the downpipe and stock CBE flanges. This allows you to use your stock mid & y pipe. No welding required. Says it's for Impreza WRX but should work the same. http://i13.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/90/b1/7b58_1.JPG http://i19.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/90/b2/d870_1.JPG http://i21.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/90/b2/bf75_1.JPG

No prob I just hope this will be helpful for those who want to keep stock mid & y or has a CBE that uses the donut like SPT, Borla, Cobb.

Polak91
MonkeyHermit do you think that that adapter would work the other way. Looking to get the Cobb Catted DP and the MR exhaust. I know that the MR is 3 inches and doesnt fit perfectly with the cobb. Wondering if it would work backwards. From 3 inch CB to 2.5 DP. Thanks

I've been looking for the reverse of that adapter too but haven't been successful. One thing some people on here do with a DP like the Cobb made for donuts is first put on a 3 inch flange gasket, then put on the stock donut gasket in reverse. Everything should then go into the 3 inch CBE piping. Ditch the spring bolts and go get some new nuts and bolts and tighten that thing down. It won't leak, but every time you take that connection apart, the donut is no longer good and you'll have to replace it to prevent leaks.
