goneskiian
An Audi owning budy of mine showed me this. Looks like a pretty cool idea... http://www.fourtitude.com/news/publish/Industry_Tuner_News/article_983.shtml Cheers! -Ian
jaycee
very cool - although when I first read the title of your post I thought we'd all have to start holding our breath.
PGT
PAX is already coming to market, in the next Honda Odyssey on sale soon. TWEEL is the PAX technology taken a few generations out. Michelin is supposedly licensing PAX out to all the major manufacturers, so good stuff to come.

dv8ingvector
I wonder how the wind noise is from them?
Jedi Pimp
Its cool that they can "tune" the tire for lateral stiffness versus horizontal compliance. Hmm accessport for your tires anyone?
DAP
Pros: can tune lateral stiffness differently than virtical stiffness & radial stiffness. No air to leak Could have channels for water to travel through the tread rather than just to the side. Cons: Can't choose the rim separate from the tire Would be horible in snow when snow gets packed in openings would be horible in mud when mud gets packed in openings Car would sink faster in water without air in tires for flotation
AreEyeSeeKay
I would guess that the openings are there for display of the technology only. If the proved to be a problem, no reason they couldn't close them off.
firedawgs
I wonder how the wind noise is from them? Is it possible to put a sidewall to make it look better? How is the cornering capabilities on these? Updated my vBGarage:
Xantium
http://lltek.com/PRS_bin/PRS_77_AudiMichelin.htm I remember seeing this a long time ago when i had my audi, I think it said that form follows fuction, and it will be a while before its "pretty"... so no worries on the sidewalls. axis008
I'm sure there will be a sidewall. It's without them in the pictures to showcase the technology. I hope! -ben
Unilat
Ahh, it's just different. If this becomes the tire of the future (without a sidewall), you won't think twice about it 2 years in. You'll look back at those old "balloon" tires and wonder how you used to drive on those. Lack of sidewall for advertising is an interesting point... Firedawgs - I don't know if it was in this article, but in another one I read it was said that lateral stiffness would be fantastic since the buttresses run from one side to the other. I spite of that, the ride can still be tuned to be soft by engineering the way the buttresses collapse. Very interesting.
SuperhawkLGT
Cons: Car would sink faster in water without air in tires for flotation Do you often go floating in the water seriously I don't think the air in the tires is what keeps you afloat for a SHORT time after you crash into the water, unless you have a Citroen from romancing the stone . dv8ingvector
Is it possible to put a sidewall to make it look better? How is the cornering capabilities on these? I bed they will have to have a side wall for safeties sake could you imagine all the sand and debris they have the potential to hurl.
