subienubie Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 Hey guys, i was looking at this website (http://www.eatsleeprace.com) and saw that this company is making rims with only one lug nut. Doesn't seem like they have any available to the public yet but i was just wondering what your opinions are on this concept. The direct website would be http://www.onelugwheels.com
smokedoutv6 Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 these are similar to what ol school daytons (wire wheels) had/have. it looks cool but i wold be hesitant to use these on my everyday driver. 5>1
ItalynStylion Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I think they look hot! I don't know much about the technology involved in making this effective but most race cars use the 1 lug design and they do much more aggressive driving than we will ever do. I realize they do it for speed in the pits but hey, it works for them.
julikop Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I think they look really nice like smokedout said; I wouldn't trust that for a daily driver.
CTlegacy06 Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 If they made the center cap smoother and styled to the wheel instead of looking like a generic nut, it might look better.
julikop Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I dont understand what the point is. I think the point is for a track car look, but for a daily driver; do u really want to make it easier for someone to steal your wheels? (I'm assuming they don't lock.)
praedet Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 It increases your rotating mass and reduces the max load on the rims... It must be good
subienubie Posted April 19, 2008 Author Posted April 19, 2008  about the stealing part...they come thinking about stealing a center cap and realize the rim comes off too, haha
JonLGT Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 I hope the wheels sits on a flat surface (like a hub) and not on the end of the studs like it looks like they are. That doesnt looks safe at all.
Blue GT Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Sure race cars are built for higher standards but they are also expected to be rebuilt after every race.
Xenonk Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 center lock rims are just for race cars.. good luck busting out the torque wrench, for our cars to goto center locking wheels (which means you have to replace the hub and hardware with it), you need money. Not to mention you need to torque the wheels down to 350 lbs.ft for that single lug. I hope you have a 4' breaker bar handy when you get a flat. Keefe
NSFW Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I dont understand what the point is. Probably to look different. That seems to be the point of 99% of all wheel purchases anyway.
TambourineMan Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 I had one lug nut wire wheels on my MGB. They had two spirals that stuck out from each nut so you could tap them with a hammer to unscrew them.
