f1anatic Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 At least according to Germany's AUTOBILD and Italy's QUATTRO RUOTE. Apparently the germans tested 100 vehicles driving them 160 km (100 miles) 54km on the "interstates", 61 on state/county highways and 45 km in city traffic. They found differences up to 50%. the italians also found up to 47% difference between the manufacturer stated fuel economy and the real world. Apparently the test goes as follows - according to a 1992 protocol. The car is put on the dyno and driven 1190 seconds. 780 seconds for city driving and 400 seconds of interstate highway driving. At the end the car is driven for a maximum of 10 seconds at 120 kph (75 mph). Keep in mind the rest of the world reports fuel consumption in liters per 100 km driven So lower the number, the better. http://www.libertatea.ro/usr/galerie_poze/tab_5728.jpg Benzina = Gasoline Diesel = errr cannot translate this word. Diferenta de consum = fuel economy difference
SLegacy99 Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Well the European testing cycle is different from ours. Less strict as Im sure you know. For example, the Prius in Europe 54 MPG combined vs. here 47 MPG combined. Perhaps its time that they revise their system too. Interesting find.
