GTINNH
So my new wheels are on there way and now I need to make a decision for some tires. The wheels are 7.5 width and 18 diameter so I am looking at a tire in 225/40 18. I want a all season because I live in NH and who the hell knows what and when the weather is doing. Soooo I am looking at either Falken Ziex ZE-912's or Toyo Proxes 4's. Does anyone have any suggestions or even a different tire they recommend? Oh and of course price is a factor. Thanx

Thanx i'd say buy the cheapest most popular tires. cause we all know that what's popular is best. if you want some real tires? not in any particular order... potenza re 960 eagle f1 a/s
sonicjet
From my personal experience Michelin Pilot is the best all season. Performs in the winter as well as in the summer
gf2020
For a New Hampshire year round tire, I would look at the Continental ExtremeContact or Firestone Firehawk GT. When I buy 18" wheels for my Outback XT, those 2 will be on my short list.

I will check out the eagle f1's. The Falken and Toyos are hardly the cheapest at 140 per tire for the toyos and a little over 100 for the Falkens. I know I will not get the BEST tires out there, but I would like to get the best tire for the price I am willing to spend.

Otherwise the Conti's would be on my list too.

gianspi
Avon M550's are performance based A/S. Sticky and cheap. enough zip ties and duct tape will fix anything.
Richard B.
Avon M550's are performance based A/S. Sticky and cheap. according to trie rack not even close to being on the same performance league as the 960's.
gianspi
according to trie rack not even close to being on the same performance league as the 960's. According to me driving on them for 10,000 miles they ARE sticky tires. I never compared them to the 960s. enough zip ties and duct tape will fix anything. I had to put a LOT of weight on wet weather being up here in WA. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/chartDisplay.jsp?ttid=72 http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/chartDisplay.jsp?ttid=55 http://www.tirerack.com/images/tires/tests/avon_tech_m550_as/chart4.gif http://www.tirerack.com/images/tires/tests/bs_potenza_re960as_pole/chart4.gif http://www.tirerack.com/images/tires/tests/avon_tech_m550_as/chart5.gif http://www.tirerack.com/images/tires/tests/bs_potenza_re960as_pole/chart5.gif i will admit...me saying "not even close" was a bit much for the dry dept. they seem fairly close. i couldn't find anything that came close in the wet. the h/p summer tires pretty much equaled the 960's at that time when driving in the wet. dry perf the 960 was a notch or 2 behind. at that point you would have to drive like an idiot at all times to get that increase of dry grip from the summers. otoh, in the wet, no reason to lose all ability of driving. some of those tires lose .15 in traction. the 960 was about .05 or so. Richard B.
RE-92. best that SOA can do quite weird that they cost about the same as a 960 does. retail wise anyways.
GTINNH
I know the 960's rock. Like I said I have them on my 17s, but I am just looking for a cheaper alternative. If I could stretch my 960s to 18 I would. I cant justify spending an additional 700 for tires that I dont even come close to using all of their potential. twisted
This has been discussed before http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76223 Conti Extremes are nice but are BACK ORDERED from the factory. The BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S are pretty decent alternatives however slightly pricier than the Contis.
spect2k
I hear the Goodyear Eagle F1s are great. I have never used them though. I have used the Proxes 4 and loved them - will be picking up another set in the future.

Scooby Fan
Nope...great tires for the money.... Maybe not quite as "Hi Perf" as P-Zero Neros or Piltot Sport A/S, but great value and very good in the snow.
