All Season Tire Question

GTINNH

Recommended Posts

So my new wheels are on there way and now I need to make a decision for some tires. The wheels are 7.5 width and 18 diameter so I am looking at a tire in 225/40 18. I want a all season because I live in NH and who the hell knows what and when the weather is doing. Soooo I am looking at either Falken Ziex ZE-912's or Toyo Proxes 4's. Does anyone have any suggestions or even a different tire they recommend? Oh and of course price is a factor. Thanx

i'd say buy the cheapest most popular tires. cause we all know that what's popular is best.

if you want some real tires? not in any particular order...

potenza re 960

eagle f1 a/s

I have the Potenza 960's on my 17's and love them but do not love thier price. I will check out the eagle f1's. The Falken and Toyos are hardly the cheapest at 140 per tire for the toyos and a little over 100 for the Falkens.

I know I will not get the BEST tires out there, but I would like to get the best tire for the price I am willing to spend.

For a New Hampshire year round tire, I would look at the Continental ExtremeContact or Firestone Firehawk GT.

When I buy 18" wheels for my Outback XT, those 2 will be on my short list.

I guess I didnt say it but I am only going to use them from spring to fall and then use my stockers for some snows. Otherwise the Conti's would be on my list too.

in my mind the best tire was the 960. now the f1 a/s is out. if i had to buy again it would be the f's.

yup, i'm rolling the 960. can't skimp on tires man. no point in "upgrading" if you are gonna stick with garbage tires.

according to trie rack not even close to being on the same performance league as the 960's.

According to me driving on them for 10,000 miles they ARE sticky tires. I never compared them to the 960s.

enough zip ties and duct tape will fix anything.

I had to put a LOT of weight on wet weather being up here in WA.

i will admit...me saying "not even close" was a bit much for the dry dept. they seem fairly close. i couldn't find anything that came close in the wet. the h/p summer tires pretty much equaled the 960's at that time when driving in the wet. dry perf the 960 was a notch or 2 behind. at that point you would have to drive like an idiot at all times to get that increase of dry grip from the summers. otoh, in the wet, no reason to lose all ability of driving. some of those tires lose .15 in traction. the 960 was about .05 or so.

I know the 960's rock. Like I said I have them on my 17s, but I am just looking for a cheaper alternative. If I could stretch my 960s to 18 I would. I cant justify spending an additional 700 for tires that I dont even come close to using all of their potential.

Kuhmo ASX....excellent tires and a good deal....ran them for 2 years on my Impreza RS and one year on my LGT...best bang for the buck!! :)

Did you have a issue with them only being H rated. Were they really soft?

Oops I was looking at the AST's
