Additionally, when the center console surround thing is removed we have no issues going into second gear. Hence the reason I do not believe that modifying it will have any impact on the shifter contacting the center console surround thing. Are you still under warranty? Either bumper-bumper or powertrain? If so, I'd take it in, and see what they say. If you want, I'm off tomorrow, and could swing by to compare my car against yours, to see if we could notice anything.
