Whitestar Pilot
Bought a huge "Concept Cars" coffee table book today from Barnes & Noble. It was on holiday clearance for $7.99, so I figured hey, for that price, the least I could do is buy it, cut some pages out of it, and hang them in my garage. On page 120 is one good looking car that, according to the caption, Subaru debuted at the Tokyo show in 1985. It was AWD, and powered by (what else?) a turbocharged 2.0 litre flat-four! Imagine that! The car looks really good, especially considering this was the mid-80's. The styling makes me think of a car that came along a few years later from Toyota; the 2nd gen MR2 Turbo. I managed to find one picture of it online, but little additional info. Here's the pic: http://www.subaruklub.hu/galeria/hatter/f9x.jpg From the rear angle (which I have in the book), the badging says SUBARU F-9X EXPERIMENTAL

ih8vtec13
It's funny looking back at concepts and knowing that back then we would drool over something like that, and now it's more like wow my car looks way cooler. Nice find it looks sort of like the SVT
Colonel Angus
yep, that is indeed 1985 alright. but seriously, that is pretty slick that they were thinking about it back then. but it begs me to wonder what kind of AWD setup they had back in the day. Beanboy
Be surprised. Subaru had many things not available today like height adjustable suspension and dual-range transfer cases. 8.3" of ground clearance on some of them, and all models had hill-holder. As far as 4WD/AWD systems: AWD Systems: Auto trans and Turbo models: full time awd Other models: 4 speed manual transmission with a Hi-Low Dual range awd on demand system The full-time system is the same (viscous) as today's manual tranny Soobie's. -B -B http://www.standardshift.com
