Smoker324 Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Hey all, The other day the hood would not open. Pulled the latch -- nothing. Well, this morning driving down the highway the hood pops open. Starts jiggling up and down in the wind. Got out tried to shut it and no shutty. Any insights on how to fix? -Dan C.
CRacerX125 Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 I would check the latch. hold the hood open, and simply flick the latch lever left and right and see if it's doing what it's supposed to. It will be obvious if it's not working correctly.

My hood was almost impossible to close after a dealer installed air deflector on the front lip of the hood. there are two bolts that allow you to raise/lower the claw mechanism that secures the hood. BTW there are 2 catches, this and the safety catch that prevents the hood from flying off/up.
scottmcphee Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Sounds like your latch cable and or latch mechanism needs lube. Check spring returns too. Please don't push your hood down, if it's aluminum it will dent easily. Dealer says you are supposed to simply drop it from about 16" above closed position. yes it will fall with a clump.. and stay shut. If not, get your latch fixed.
welby Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Everything's probably gunked up and frozen with the cold. Spray the latch down real good with some lube and work it back and forth. It should loosen right up and be fine. My wife's Tribute was doing the same thing
