2.5i metra solution?

ok so i just got an 08 2.5i. i really want to upgrade the headunit and fortunately its possible for us 2.5i owners. however, the only kit available is the one from metra, and it has that ugly slot above the headunit which is holding me back from buying it. for those that have done used this kit, what is the actual size of the opening? is it 1/2 din? because if it is, i've been searching for 1/2 din things i could use to fill up that spot, and i found the clarion srk5 center speaker. its made by clarion and doesn't look to cheesy, what do you guys think (especially the audiophile guys)? would placement of this speaker in the center dash be optimal and would it even improve the sound?

I'm pretty sure it's not as wide as a din, so that would probably be more of an issue that the height of the opening.

I personally think the Metra adapter is ugly; otherwise, I would have gotten it. I just don't feel like spending the money to make it a double din and look better.

Edit: Yep, the top slot is not wide enough for a din size unit either...
