My New Alpine Double Din DVD Setup

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Check out my new toys:

-RHD Legacy, Outback Double DIN AV Panel

-Alpine IVA-W202E CD/DVD/MP3 d/din HU

-Alpine KCE-300T Bluetooth Kit

-Powertech 400W Inverter

Soon to be added:

-Mediagate MG-25, 150GB HD

-Maybe steering wheel audio controls..

I had the Liberty GT Premium pack with the 13 speaker McIntosh stereo. Loved the sound quality for a stock HU but didn't like the non-MP3 playback. Here is what it looked like before:

And after:

Here is where I put the inverter:

Here is where I fed the RCA female cables for my Mediagate:

The damn Mediagate was DOA so am now eagerly awaiting a replacement unit. For those of you who don't know what a Mediagate is, have a look here:

MG350HD

MG35

MG25

I chose the MG25 due to its small size and portability.

Overall I'm not happy that the fascia plate thing is a different colour to my McIntosh one.. As you can see, one is black the other is grey.. I'm also not that thrilled about how much the HU is sticking/protruding outwards.. You can't really tell from the photos but yeah.. I was told it couldn't sit any more flush as it would affect the opening/closing mechanism so what can ya do.. The Alpine unit is freakin awesome, my only gripe with that is my mobile phone isn't fully compatible so I can't upload my phonebook on the HU! Maybe I see a new phone in the future perhaps?

If you're thinking of doing the same thing, feel free to ask me questions!

Btw, I got this installed by a professional Audio Installer as I didn't trust myself

So what do you think?

Your installer is correct: That specific Alpine DD has a 1" screen. Typical are under 3/4". You cannot move that radio back any further or it really wont open or close.

Looks good. But definately prefer the black over the gray. You could dismantle the black one, repaint it to a satin black, paint the bezel and the side pieces to match. That would look sick..

baru - We offer a double DIN solution. Check out our GB.

The only issue I have with installs like this one is that the screen is mounted low -and in front of the gear shift lever. Forget that one...but taking the eyes off the road and to look down and to the right while driving...seems *slightly* dangerous.

But that is where some Mercedes and Audi cars have it...which I find it flawed.

I thought about painting the new fascia but didn't want to take any chances in case it turned out shit..

And yes the screen position is mounted low but I don't find myself watching the screen unless im at the traffic lights or whatnot.. It mainly benefits the passengers ie. the girlfriend. Too high though (eg. cubby install) and it attracts too much unwanted attention mainly from the Police.

Yeah I've read that you guys don't get decent stock Legacy audio systems in the US. Damn.. you're missing out cuz IMO the McIntosh was simply brilliant. I got sick of burning CD's so I decided to change it over.. The stocks now sitting on my floor, I'll pack it up and store it away in case I need to revert back to stock some day for selling the car or whatnot..

And I'm pretty sure the McIntosh doesn't have AUX in..

Nice looking stereo. Just wanted to know were you got the facia that goes around the monitor and how much was it.

Gday mate,

I got it imported from japanparts.com for approx. AU$360 incl. shipping

AVOturboworld.com also sells it but I found it more expensive and they didn't really reply to my email enquiries sufficiently.

Good news is I have discovered that there is a BLACK fascia to suit my trim out there :spin:

Even better news is somebody has agreed to buy the silver fascia off me so I can replace it with a black one. Can't argue with that :)

Hi there - on the offchance you get a notification etc for this... Did you ever swap in the black fascia? And where did you get it from?

I am just about to buy a 2004 Legacy GTB (here in NZ) with the Mcintosh system and I really want an aux in... Despite the cost of the proper dual DIN adaptor, it looks like the only good solution.

Lots of the links in messages here pointing to places like rallitek or AVO are broken and I can't find the bits. I DID find the dual din silver part on japanparts.com, but I was hoping there is a black version somewhere (without resorting to painting it!)

Woh mega bump, in response no I did not end up getting the black fascia  but I've grown accustomed to the silver, it actually matches some of the interior trim.

Chuckle - thanks for noticing and responding - I knew it was a bit of a long shot given the thread resurrection I preformed :-)

As it happens, I found a secondhand silver double DIN setup for $300NZD (about 180USD I think) but also found a way to get a line into the McIntosh stereo in the car I bought (2004 GT-B) so at the moment the double DIN is sitting, unused, gathering dust on the shelf.

I imagine one day I will get keen and buy a nice doubleDin unit + amps and then I will have a use for it :-)

Cheers - N

Hi there... I do still have one actually... It's a little scratched up (light scratches) and would need a coat of paint really to be perfect, but it's available...

Where abouts in NZ are you? I'm in chch... If I can find some hires shots of the double din stuff I will PM them to you later.

Theres 4 in each front door!!, 1 in each back door and 1 sub, thats 11 for the wagon, in the saloon there are 2 also in the parcel tray making 13.

See my thread on my sounds install, I put a pic of the original setup in the front door.
