When it arrives you should post up how you like it. I have been away quite a bit but we used to have a Netbook thread on here. I will go look for it.

Ohh sorry..I meant I bought one right before Xmas...not that I ordered this particular one. :)

But I LOVE mine, it is super easy to carry around, it is perfect if you want a really small, light, laptop for Email, word processing, Internet and logging. It is especially good for logging IMO

However, the screen is a little small, the fan is a little loud, and if you are a gamer, the processor is probably too slow.

RE: ACER Aspire One Netbook.....

Let me know where that thread is, bro, and I'll put in my two cents. :) I owe you at least that much. :)

-------

I got mine new, shipped, from the Buy.com offer you flagged a couple of weeks ago, for only $30 more than the price of the TigerDirect refurb deal.

I've been very happy with it, precisely as Spec B posted of his reply.

I use ECUTeK, and thus, the laptop is my interface (with DeltaDash or EasyECU). It's *so* much easier to take this little Netbook out to the car/garage, rather than having to drag our (my and the wifey's) full-sized notebook out there. This is doubly important for me as my speed-detection countermeasures are also updated via the web (Escort 9500i and the Cheetah GPS-Mirror) or otherwise equipped with laptop interface (Laser Interceptor).

As I've posted on the ECUTeK Forums, I am not, in the foreseeable future, going to invest in a carputer setup, so this kind of portability is something that really spoke to me, particularly as it could be combined with other light entertainment usage, such as e-mails or just surfing the web from the bedroom (). Similarly, for trips, I could so much more easily bring this along, as long as I didn't need the big laptop. I'm not exactly a weakling :p - it just makes things so much easier.

For me, the Netbook purchase has been money well spent, and I'm completely satisfied with it.

---

I wish it would boot up a bit faster, both from a standing-start as well as from "hibernation/sleep," but that's really nit-picking.

BTW, battery-life on these 3-cell'ed Netbooks might be a concern for some, but for a guy like me, who rarely datalogs for more than an hour at a stretch and/or has an inverter in the car, that's also a non-issue.

I think GWIM has a thread relating to Netbooks and then there is the "Computer Nerd" thread.

Could you provide some extra details on hooking the laptop to the car. I looked around and the stuff I've found seems pretty pricey. I know, semi-OT, my apologies.

Cool. I'll look for them, and see if I can make any contributions. :) Thanks!

My old Tactrix (v1.2, I bought it back in 2005 :)) is still out with my friends, so I haven't tried doing that, with the OpenSource stuff (RomRaider, etc.), yet.

But with the ECUTeK, it was just plug-and-play. They (ECUTeK) provides a proprietary OBD-II -to- USB "dongle" that is a part of the license key, and after a rather painless set of driver installs (the last update, in Q2, 2008, finally had WHQL certified drivers - one of the reasons why I got a new computer was because my old laptop, my garage laptop, was a Windows ME unit, and the ECUTeK updates on it were getting rather painful), it was ready to roll.

Say a bunch of the guys on here were so happy that we all chipped in and paypaled you the money for it. We can even set up a fake thread for "proof".

No better way to start a marriage than with a lie.

Good luck with the nuptials and congrats!
