So I've searched but not completely understanding PZEV...

Recommended Posts

I am not in market for doing any engine upgrades (except maybe an intake) but I keep coming across this "2005 PZEV engine" in the forums. From the looks of it, it seems to be related to adhering to stricter emissions.

Kostamojen gave links to the differences with the following links:

If you have a PZEV 2005 motor, it will look like this:

If you have a non-PZEV 2005 motor, it will look like this:

Perhaps I'm not very observant, but what exactly is the difference? Only thing significantly noticed was a component sitting between the raditor and motor on the PZEV. Also it seems the wiper resevior location is also a bit different, but is there something specifically I could look for? And are there performance differences between PZEV/non-PZEV?

Thanks!

Unless your engine was originally purchased in a state that required it, you don't have one.

see www.cars101.com for list.

See how many O2 sensors you have. If three, non pzev. If 5 pzev. there are other differences, but that is the most outstanding one.

The pzev had one before and after each cat and a fifth after the Y cat.

According to the picture, my 2.5i wagon should be classified as PZEV.

However, I bought my car in UT which is not on the list for PZEV states.

Maybe the owner of that dealership is a green guy???

Really hope my car is not PZEV, thn I canl mod the header immediately.

i pretty sure. you can tell by the way it looks, and if you take a look at the headers they'll be equal length single ports with 4 o2 sensors in them. None pzev 05 motors i think were still unequal and have dual port headers. My motor is an 05 pzez and you can tell that there dif http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=34865&d=1175896054
