Cincy_Machine
I am new to this forum and to Subaru. I pick up a 97 Legacy GT with high miles but in excellent shape and well taken care of but I have a knock sensor code. It does have 87 octane fuel in it but really don't know what to look at first. Replace fuel with 90 octane and reset the computer or just change out the sensor. If its not what could it be. Thanks, Aaron Cincinnait

rony
Do you have a CEL? If so, what is the description of the code? You might need to replace the knock sensor. But if I remember correctly, they aren't cheap. My Car vBGarage
Bdubs
The knock sensor is an electrical sensor on top of the engine block. If the car is throwing the CEL, then it has to be replaced. Its about $75, but its very very simple to do yourself. It's one bolt, and a plug. Finding it is kind of tricky though. when you stand on the driver's side of the car, look directly down, its behind the intake manifold, under the acceleration cables, thats where it should be. it has a wire attached to it and a bolt in the center holding it down. like a 12 or 10 mm cant remember exactly.
