Rockinblue
I heard somewhere that the engine on the base 2.5i takes 87 octane rather than 85 octane at the pump. Is this true? What kind of mileage numbers have you guys been getting?
99Stock2.5i
The owners manual says it needs 87 octane. I get anywhere between 23.5 and 24.2 but the computer says 25.2 and 26.2.
Edvig
I get about 21-24 mpg in mixed city and highway driving.
Paul G.
Gee, around here 87 is the lowest available, so it makes no difference to me. Wagon, 5MT--I average 24-26 mixed. On all hwy trips I come pretty close to 30. This is actual, the trip computer is about 8% optimistic. P.
Rockinblue
Around these parts, 87 is considered mid-grade. It must have to do something with the altitude here in the Rockies. All the gas stations around these parts switch to oxygenated gasoline during the winter months. So I figure I would be taking quite a mileage hit using 85 octane, especially during the winter. BernardP
I computed 10.55 liters/100 km on my last tankful (about 27 mpg), driving around town. Not a lot of dense stop-and-go trafic though. The computer was showing 9.8 liters/100 km. This amounts to being optimistic by 7.5 %.
