cwmiller
17x8 with a +40mm offset, will they fit on an outback xt with stock 225/55r17 tires?
NSFW
I don't know, but if you can tell me the offset of the stock OB wheel, I can do a little math and perhaps give you a thumbs-up / thumbs-down.

crayzd
I put some Motegi Track Touge 18x7.5 with a 45mm offset on my car and they fit fine event with the Tien S-Tech springs, no rubbing at all. Not that it helps you but I thought I would offer the info. Oh yea, I have 225/40ZR18 Tires.
cwmiller
stock is 17x7 +48mm. I believe they will stick out about +21mm. I don't know if i have enough room as that is almost an inch.
NSFW
The outside of the RIM will move out 8mm due to the offset plus 12mm due to the wider rim... But since the tires are going to be the same, then you're only going to lose 8mm of clearance along the outer (tread) portion of the tire. Just some food for thought. My guess is it will be OK in the back but borderline in the front. (You probably guessed that already.) 225 is kinda narrow for an 8" wheel by the way, here's an example on an LGT: http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=684629&postcount=
Xenonk
it will be flush with the fender, it's doable, but you may need to roll your rear fenders for the XT. Keefe
