Jazz up your psuedo woodgrain

Yes, I have the dreaded tuape, fake woodgrain interior, which really could look a lot better, if it didn't have such a flat finish. So I spiffed mine up...went to home depot and bought some clear lacquer in a spray can. Took the woodgrain inserts out of the dash, very lightly scuffed them with some scotch-bright and then cleaned them. Then sprayed a nice clean coat of laqcuer on them. Let them dry and presto...nice glossy looking woodgrain. They look 10 times classier than the flat finish and actually almost look like they could be real wood (okay...maybe not  )

Interesting! I tried that on mine before painting it black and the clearcoat just bubbled. I had to sand the hell out of the woodgrain before it'd accept a primer with a smooth finish.

It's all in the prep work. Scuff, very, very lightly with ultra fine steel wool, then clean with warm water and a good detergent soap. Touch by the edges until sprayed. Good to go. :)
