Guns don't kill people. People with guns kill people.

people have been killing people longer than guns have been around. imagine the future when someone comes up with a more efficient way of killing, people will be ignoring guns like we ignore knives now, and blaming the new tech

KRB - perhaps rephrasing your statement to indicate that more U.S. civilians have been killed on American soil, than U.S. military personnel have been killed by war "in the same time period" would make more sense.

Phrased this way, it's correct, as over 280,000 U.S. civilians have been killed on U.S. soil as a result of gun violence - which includes, suicides, homicides, and police-related shootings. In that same period, which would include everything after WWII, nearly 153,000 American military personnel have been killed as a result of war.

The way you worded your post, it would indicate that more American civilians were killed during the past 50 years, than all military personnelin all U.S. wars. Per PBS, that statistic would be more than 1.1 million.

"Now, you take a great cinema actor, in my opinion, James Cagney. He went very far. He was very theatrical, very intense, and yet always believable. He riveted the audience's attention. His acting advice was, "Believe what you say -- say what you believe." And that says it, really."

-- Gregory Peck
