How to get 40+ Amps on the roof....?

So the current project is hooking up some light forces on the roof rack. I already have them mounted on the aerobars, and mind you, they look very sexy up there (i'll get pics when i can find the charger for my camera http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif ) i just need to figure out how to get a 10awg wire from the battery, to the top of the car, with MINIMAL damage... yeah i know what you're thinking "oh look, andy's going to start cutting holes in the new car..." well i'm not! I'm going to make this mod completely removable/quick disconnectable.

So, a few ideas:

1) run a wire from the batt, through the subframe all the way to the back, out the gasket w/ the wires for the brake/tail lights, up the side of the hatch/gasket area, and then up to the roof rack, where i'll just zip tie it, or somehow attach the wire.

2) run a wire into the car, up to the roof inside, convert the DC voltage to an AC signal, and make a transformer w. some coils, through the glass (moon roof maybe...), and run a wire straight from the glass to the lights.

it's an 05 OBXT, but i'm pretty sure all the holes/wire routings are pretty much the same as most OBW's.

Any ideas? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

New york doesn't seem to care much about aux lights, i used to have them on my impreza, mounted up on the tube bumper, and i never had them covered, and never got any lip from the cops about it.

I also have covers that just snap on, incase i drive through PA or some other state that cares

I was also thinking of going up the A-pillar, but i want the wire/s to be somewhat secure. I use the lights alot when i'm moving faster than i should be at night, and it's nice to not have stuff smacking around ;)

the problem is, it's such a huge wire... on my impreza i ran some wires up the windshield trim, and up under the roof rack, i don't really have that option with these lights.

The lights i'm mounting are the two big guys in this pic, on the front bumper:

the snorkles is still on the other car ;) i just need to rip out the transmission and fix it... and then make it even taller (give it another lift  )

but yeah... i guess i'll try to see how subaru runs the washer fluid to the back of the car... because if i can get that same line, then i can get the wire to where i think i can tap it into the back brake light area, and put a quick connector/socket in there, and then i can just run the other half of the circuit up and out of the hatch, without messing up the main gasket.

I already pulled out a bunch of trim in the back end of the car, and found the washer fluid line... just need to follow that back up to the front.. which means pulling even more trim....

oh how i hate those blue plastic snappy things......

I would suggest finding a Baja owner or one on the lot up there and see how that gets up there. If memory servs, it comes up from the trim in the bed and then runs along the rails with heavy duty automotive double back tape. Just a suggestion from a former Baja owner that thought about doing that.

Well, i mounted the lights, and ran one wire inside the car, from under the roof rack, down to the fuse box.

Here's what the lights look like so far ;)

and yes... i do have covers

i think i may drill a hole directly into the bottom of the roof rack, then flush mount a weather-proof quick-connector on the side or back of the rack... make it all stealthy and stuff :spin:

Having taken apart most of the interior, I would think the b-pillars would be the way to go, decent amount of room in there, and you can run cable in from the battery, in through the door, like most amp installs have you do, then along the floor to the b-pillar. Getting it back outside the car is up to you though. Good luck.

you can run straight from the battery down through the floor and up the b-pillar?

please inform me of how :)

i wasn't quite sure how i was going to run it in to the fuse box yet...
