Zebe
Do you think I can modify a set of 58" Thule bars to replace the 50" bars that come with the Thule 440 rack kit? I have a pair of 58" Thule bars that I would like to mount on roof of my wagon. It looks like I could cut or machine a slot in the underside of the 58" bars such that the 440 feet mate to the 58" bars. I would effectively be moving the tightening knob 4 inches further from the feet. Would the tightening knob need to be extended, too? I presume I could weld or somehow fasten a length of hex rod to the tightening knob. Does the tightening knob use a hex rod to key into the foot? BTW, I saw the thread on modifying the 440 rear bar to increase bar spread. Great post! I'll incorporate this fix as well.

Zebe
Any thoughts? A definitive "yeh" or "nay" would be great, but any opinions or advice on the feasibility of the modification is very much welcome.
