Dunlop Sport Maxx, experience? My new setup= 17X8 Ultraleggera & Dunlop Sport Maxx

Well I ordered some 18X8 rotas and 235/40 GS-D3's awhile back and that didn't last too long, as a matter of fact they never got installed on my car!

I decided I wanted to stick to 17's and just ordered 17X8 Ultraleggeras and 235/40 Dunlop Sport Maxx tires. So my questions is does anyone have experience with these tires? I looked around ont he site and there were a couple of threads mentioning them but no real work experience. I saw some tests on the tire rack web site and they seemed to perform extremely well!

Test Here>>>> http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp?ttid=59

Anyway just wanted to know if there is some real world experience with these tires.

Hmmm, based on the graphs, it looks like you picked a nice set of tires! :)

Well I sure hope so, I read the test and spoke to one other person on the board that seems to like them but I was hoping that there were others that had more info.

Well they are a max performance summer tire. Put them up against an extreme performance summer and it won't be much of a comparison. But, compared among other max performance summer tires, they seem to be pretty good overall. If you end up looking for more performance out of your tires (although wear might be increased), the RE-01R's aren't much more expensive and will be stickier.

I currently use these on the rears of my S2k, 255/35/18's. They are excellent performing tires that ride suprisingly well. They grip better, yet rides nicer than my 17" Goodyear Eagle F1's.

This is good news! the little bit of feedback that I have found here and there has all been very good. I am getting anxious to get these.

I too, am about to purchase a new set of wheels, 17x8s also. I am also thinking about the sport Maxx! What is the offset of your OZs? I am hoping to buy a set of SSR comps wiht the wheels. pics please!

The wheels are a 48 offset, I have not got the wheels yet becasue they sent the wrong color, I ordered Graphite and they sent black. I will take pics ASAP should be by the end of the week. The tires are in and they look nice, sidewall is very firm, cant wait to see how they handle.

No experience.

Please do us all a favor and review these tires on the tire review sticky after this summer's driving - I for one would love to hear how good they are, especially in the wet.

My tire of choice is the B'stone RE 050A, but it would be nice to have a backup in case of sales, that sort of thing. The contisportcontact 2 and 3 are also both excellent - but no cheaper than the 050, so I'll stick with the bstone.

Hope you like them, and I look forward to hearing how they perform over the next 5k to 10k mi.

I have a set of the Z rated Sport Maxx ready to go on. I could not pass the $100 rebate on 4. I will report back in a couple of months.

I have personally seen the Sport Maxx drop .02 sec off of 1/4 mile times compared with other similar tires run same day back to back...

They grip like mad.

.02 sec. is not much. That could be due to less rolling resistence. I got mine on last week. So far I can say that the ride is very surprising for Z rated tires. I expected jarring expansion joints. However the ride is very smooth. I have not yet settled on a psi setting yet. Went 40 front and 38 rear first, then 45 front and 43 rear. Lots of tendancy for the car to roll on the carcuss, and twitchy on the highway. (like to wants to change ends with little input.) Dropped to 37 front and 36 rear now. Much improved.

Before going to work this morning I will drop to 35 front and 34 rear. If the car stays settled at the limits of adhesion in a tight 50mpg curve, the way my Toyo tpt's did then I will be satisfied.

I will report back.
