I am curious to know how many of you are experiencing brake shudder when coming to a moderately fast stop. I am getting shudder in the steering wheel when stopping aggressively. I was told that it may be the rotors. I would be surprised if this were true given that I have noticed the problem since before 1,000 miles.

you can mess up any rotor by abusing it.. that's as easy and a hard offramp from 80mph, and then parking the car right away or sitting at a light. 1000 miles means nothing. edit - in case it wasn't obvious, there's nothing that subaru can do about this. It's the same brake technology in every car. If you got warped rotors at delivery make them change them out, otherwise it's the same as abusing your tires and then complaining when they are all unevely/badly worn.

I guess it is hard to believe that a new car could have warped rotors. It is cool that I can get others opinions on this site before I ask Subaru to check the rotors. I am still curious about how often rotors could be warped on anew car. I am also interested because it was question on the JD Powers survey. John

I had a 2000 Outback that had warped rotors from the beginning. I didn't notice it on the short test drive, but the next day I noticed it during my long commute when I got a chance to brake a lot in city traffic. Either the car was abused before I bought it, or the rotors were bad from the factory. As warp-prone as that generation's Outback rotors were, I would say they were probably too small. Craig

Unfortunately, it does sound like your rotors. Since the car is brand-new and under the 12-month full warranty that includes consumables, your dealer should check it out. If possible, try and get a new set of rotors vs. having them resurfaced. Ken

Hi from Australia guys. We have had the GT for a year now and there have been major problems with the brakes shuddering. I am on my third set of rotors and pads under waranty. There are many incidences of this occuring . Subaru japan have now addmitted there is a problem and there are working on a permanent fix. Keep complaining until they replace the parts.

You may not have bedded in your brakes properly. http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/bedintheory.htm What everyone calls "warped rotors" is actually caused by improper bedding in. You'd think the owners manuals would tell you how to do this properly instead of just "don't brake too hard for 1000 miles."
