Cobb AP experts please help!!!

Recommended Posts

Ok, first thing's first

my car won't start!!!

The battery is not dead cuz everything else works. When I turn the ignition all the way on, all I get is the beeping, the gauges sweeping, but no ignition!

All I get is Err HC on the mileage gauge.

Does anyone know what this means? Did I really screw up bad??:icon_conf

Ok well here's exactly what happened.

After flashing the ECU with Cobb stg. 1, everything was fine.

Then I the firmware update came out, so I followed these directions.

1. uninstall the AP from your car

2. download the upgraded program

3. run the upgraded program

4. sync AP to PC

5. installed the AP driver

6. PC detected the AP

7. click on help ->update to update your AP

8. install goes for about 30 minutes, then gets an error

9. I call Cobb and tell them about this

10. they tell me I have to mail it in to get it updated by them.

11. I ask if I can remarry it to the car and set it to stg 1 before I send it

12. they say it's not a prob

13. I go to my car and try to flash the ecu to stg 1 again

14. FLASH FAILED

15. I unplugged the test connectors

16. unplugged the OBDII port

17. tried to start the car, but it won't!!!

HELP!!!!!!!! :icon_mad:

I was trying to.

when the AP was connected, the only two options were

1. install

2. sync with pc

so I clicked on install

it was identifying my car,

and identified it correctly to 2005 Legacy GT 5MT

then I chose the map 93 5MT or something like that.

and when the status bar came out

0% 100% thing.

I think this was like the storing stock map part or something,

and then it just says flash failed

so I think it got an error while remarrying the AP...??

ahh im going to say it again.... leave your key in the on position whenever there is anything other than a successful flash...

your ecu flash is incomplete and restarting the ecu has put the current data in memory (or lack thereof) into effect. you have to pull it out of the car and send it out to get benchflashed....

ahh, sounds like sage advice(from experience?) i think he means that because the flash failed, if you just unplugged your test connectors and started your car you woulda been safe. maybe TDC does benchflashing? or PDX? next day air it!

after it said failed

I inplugged the test connectors, unplugged the AP, then started the engine, and it didn't work.

so I definitely have to benchflash the ECU?

is there no way around it?

phukin a man..

can someone kindly please point out what I did wrong here???

do you have a laptop? use the ap cable and see if ecuexplorer (SSM) can communicate with it?

if you take it to a dealer they will probably try to gouge you for ~$1000 (new ecu+reprogramming keys+labor)

but if it was an AP error i would get in touch with cobb and let them know about this issue...

yep.... you have to raw write to the ecu and the only way that is done is to use the existing JTAG connectors on the inside of the case with special hardware....

ok just got off the phone with Chris from Cobb tech support.

the option i have right now is to hardreboot the ECU

I have to disconnect the negative battery wire, press the brakes to drain out the voltage, then let it sit for an hour, then try to start it again. If not I have to call them back tomorrow.

I still have to send them my AP back anyway.

See you guys in a few.

oh ecuexplorer doesnt modify/write to the ecu, it just reads it...

install onto laptop

plug in ap cable

start software

--select the correct com port (lower left pane, right click select SSM communication)

plug into ODB port turn on key

+ECU should show your connected ecu

click the + (plus sign)

highlight realtime data view

the whole right pane should be poplulated with selectable items you can read from the ecu (RPM, boost, AFR, lots of stuff)
