SubieDriver
I dont know if you guys know this, but I read in the latest issue of the the subaru magazine that SIA actually stands for Subaru-Isuzu of America, which was the original incarnation. Change "stands" into "stood" (past tense) and you have it right. They changed the meaning after Isuzu dropped out.
SubieDriver
^^ doh. Thanks for clearing that up. Either way, I was surprised about the Isuzu connection. I was also surprised when I first found out about it. I guess I was kinda splitting hairs regarding the "stand" vs "stood". Sorry about that. No offense intended, because I didn't know at first either.
keepclam
SIA actually stood for "Subaru Isuzu Automotive", not "Subaru Isuzu America". SIA is the manufacturing facility located in Lafayette, Indiana, some of which was used to manufacture Isuzus, just like some of the facility will soon be used to manufacture Camrys. Conveniently, "Isuzu" and "Indiana" both start with letter "I", so when Isuzu left, the facility's name was changed to "Subaru Indiana Automotive." http://www.subaru-sia.com/slide/main_menu.html
