  1. For posterity’s sake… here’s what a local Subie shop told me, and another Subie shop confirmed the same: “While the chassis' are similar from 06 and 07, the CANBUS system is almost entirely different, meaning swapping of equipment from 06 to 07, is nearly impossible to do correctly. Putting an 07 into your 06, along with SI drive would require changing the vehicle harness as well.” So, going with an 06 Subaru reman 5EAT (and am told this is the last unit currently in stock in the country).
  2. Any difference in the 5EAT from 2006 to 2007? Is it plug-and-play, or close? I heard the valve body was improved, but can't find documentation other than the part number being different. My 2006 has failed and I'm considering a remanufactured transmission. (Also open to thoughts on reman vs rebuild, with primary consideration being reliability/longevity.)
  3. Update: Ed’s Transmission retrieved the code (rear speed sensor), but was unable to diagnose the exact problem or get the transmission to misbehave. Nice guys. Strangely, it’s been about 2 weeks since Ed’s and it hasn’t mis-shifted or thrown a code since then. *shrug* I don’t know what that’s about, but I’ll take it!
  4. Any recommendations for a transmission shop in King or SnoCo (prefer north of Seattle, but not an absolute) for rebuilding the 5EAT in my stock LGT wagon?
  5. Perhaps this would be helpful to verify the part number: http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/en_b13/type_69/body_equipment_interior/instrument_panel/illustration_6/ This is a European part? I've used Cheam Motors in the UK for online Subaru parts, but their website says they voluntarily closed April 30.
  6. Thanks! I'll hang onto his number from the ad... got a couple older Subies in the family that may need some work down the road.

  7. oh ya when u call him tell him Blaze from Edmonds sent you.
  8. Yes I do. He Lives in Tacoma but is Mobile up to 200 miles no charge! He has adds on craigslist all the time: http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/pts/1525356809.html most recent add. I'm not racist or prejudice or anything. But he's kind of a Crazy Black middle aged man. He's really cool though and Very Honest and reliable. PLus He gives a 1 year warranty on Engines and trannys cause he gets them from junkyards but he's been doing this for 30 years and has good references and he'll even give you a vin number that the engine came from.
  9. Hey, I just wanted to post an update. First, a couple weeks ago I received the shift knob from Cheam Motors in the UK... no problems whatsoever and it looks nice. I'd go through them again. Second, I'm still working on getting the deep cargo tray here. Been pursuing it slowly in what little spare time I get. My dealer's considering importing it. If they decline, I'll try AVO. I'll post again when there is any news.
  10. I only checked the Subie sites that were in English, so I know at least Singapore, Australia, NZ & UK carry it. I'll dig through the Japan site. AVO had crossed my mind as well. I'll contact 'em. I've also got a shipper to contact that I've had a good experience with previously, and I've given a brief thought to talking with my dealer's parts dept... I bet they could make some money importing and selling these. So... lots to do, but at least there are some alternatives to pursue.
  11. Well, bad news on the deep cargo tray. Apparently it's too large to go UPS and their freighters have given them a quote of appx $440 dollars to ship it. As much as I'd love the tray, I can't justify $440 shipping on a $160 tray. I'm looking into a few things myself, but if anyone has suggestions how to get an oversized item from Surrey, England to the Seattle area, I'm open.
  12. Approx $160 US... probably about the limit I would've been willing to pay. That's about double the US MSRP for the standard cargo tray (and over 3X the invoice price of the standard tray). And I'm still waiting word on the shipping cost. I also saw it on the Subaru New Zealand site, but it was even more there. Not a blazing bargain, but it was worth it for me. Once that puppy's in, I hope to never vacuum the cargo area again. Last time, one of a bunch of bags of fine sand I was carrying broke in transit. Had 'em all pushed as far forward as they'd go, to put the weight over the axle, and the sand spilled between the rear seats. What a pain. Wish they'd sell this in North America... really adds to the utility aspect of a wagon.
  13. Wanted to pay homage to a great thread. Thanks to Opie, I've just ordered from the UK a deep cargo tray for our Outback & a new AT shifter knob for our Legacy. http://www.cheammotors.co.uk/images/j511eag100.jpg http://www.cheammotors.co.uk/images/35126ag020.jpg
