outahere
The German organization ADAC (German Auto Club??) has tested 19 winter tires. They give the Blizzak LM25 an overall score of 3 stars, the Dunlop M3 gets 2 stars, and the Nokian WR gets only 1 star. The other 3 star tires are the Pirelli 210, Pilot Alpin PA2, Continental TS810, and Uniroyal MS55. More details can be found at: http://www.adac.de/Tests/Reifentests/Winterreifen/205-55-R16-HT-2004-10/default.asp?ComponentID=94917&SourcePageID=8979%230&TL=
outahere
A summary table of the results can be found at: http://www.adac.de/Tests/Reifentests/Winterreifen/205-55-R16-HT-2004-10/tab.asp?ComponentID=94934&SourcePageID=94888 As I understand it, the higher the numerical score, the LOWER the performance rating in each category. Scores range from 1 (best) to 5 (worst).
kanoswrx
I saw those new LM25's on tirerack they looked really nice, can't believe they beat the WR's that much. Looks like the LM25's are a good choice. They even come in our size, 215/45/17 $150 a tire, about the same as WR's I think.
outahere
FYI, when ADAC tested these tires and scored them, they give different weighting to the various performance areas. Wet performance counts the most in the final rankings (must rain a lot during German winters?), followed in order by snow performance, dry performance, then ice performance. mcchicken
Really interested in these test results....too bad I'm not exactly fluent in German. Can anyone acurately interpret the results?
chucktoo
I bought the M-3s since there is no LM-25 in 225/55/17 for the Outback a 225/45/17 is the closest LM-25 the Revs/Mile 833 vs 775 for RE-92As and fits on the stock rims. Let you know in a month or so how well they work.

gtguy
The test results depend upon the expected parameters. As I understood it a month ago, when the first threads about that test came out, German winters are rainy, so a tire that would do well in the snow, such as the WR, would definitely lose out to a more performance-oriented tire, such as the LM Blizzak. Horses for courses, I guess. Kevin

According to the German ADAC tests, the WRs performance scores in the snow test and ice test were inferior to those of the LM25. The WR did equal the LM25 in wet performance, beat it in lower rolling resistance, but lost out to the LM25 in tire wear.
