Looky looky. Cobb Springs

Hmmm, been thinking pinks and bilsteins are what I wanted but these may be a more cost effective option. For a first try anyway.

TDC - Can you give us a ride/performance report in addition to those pics?

Thanks!

Once again cobb has given LGT owners exactly what you want.

I know you guys well enough and these cobb springs are exactly what 99% of you will sell a kidney for.

As a comparison, i had Stechs on my car. The S-Techs are lower and ride pretty much like stock but with less travel ( obviously ) They are smooth, cushy and i LOVED they way they make the car look. i am the 1% that loves lower cars

Now on to the cobb springs. Last night i installed cobb Sways and springs.

  • Car is approx 1" higher than the stechs (stech advertises 1.5" drop vs cobb's 1.75/1.0)
  • The springs themselves are a thicker gauge of steel than the stechs. I knew it would ride differently, just by looking @ them.
  • the install went easy as pie, just rememebr to have a friend there for the rear spring install (its easier)
  • The height is IMHO exactly what you guys would want. A 2 finger gap front and rear, with a SLIGHT rake twards the front. For me its a bit too high , but its also getting twards winter so i will leave them on for now.

and the most important part, THE RIDE:

  • The car is noticably more controlled.
  • The ride is a wee bit stiffer than the S-Tech but in no way harsh
  • The spings are a GREAT match to the shocks
  • We have some pretty nasty roads under construction around here, so i went down a few to get the feeling of these. I can say that the extra 1" of travel helps ALOT and the stiffer springs as well.
  • Sunken manholes absorbed without shocking my ass
  • Leftover frost heaves are a non issue
  • Handling is improved, roll is reduced (but i put sways on too)

IMHO this is the perfect setup for an LGT

people considering springs should consider Cobb springs/ sway combo

I like it, and im super anal about this stuff

if you want a package deal

i can do $630 shipped to your door on this

(the vendor in me comes out)

Something I've been pondering too.

NEARLY stock when speaking about springs could mean

signifigantly more spring rate

remember a "normal spring rate" on a coilover is

8K/10K

vs oem

3k/4k

so even a 4k/5k is "nearly stock"

but NOT the same as stock

i have these springs on my car

they are NOT that low, and they ride great

So these springs shouldn't hurt stock strut life very much if any? I liked the H-techs till i read that they reduced the strut life by something like 15-20%. people were complaining about sag at 20,000 miles.

if you are worried about strut life dont drive your car.

People need to realize EVERY modification to a car has SOME trade off

i beat the bag out of my shocks on Stechs for 14K

put these on and they still feel good as new
