Recommended Posts

So I am finally ready to drop some cash for tint at tint king in billerica. now, just to pick what tint brand i want. any suggestions? brian recently added forumla 1 and suntek to the brands of choice.

TIA

llumar ~$200

3m ~$250

huper optik ~$400

sun tek

formula one

looking for the longest lasting, limo looking one. im only going 35% in the back since i live in nH and their tint laws are dumb. i do have a escort x50 so hopefully i wont lose much sensitivity. i am mostly concerned about cops in front of me rather than behind anyway.

I got 3m, 35% up front and 20% on the rear 5. Best brand you can get for your $$ and is garunteed for life...got mine for $200 straight up.

Also on the certificate I got w/ the tint, it claims that any authorized 3m installer will fix your 3m tint for free if you have the certificate w/ you.

you know my vote

Your interior should be part of the decision. A black interior needs less percentage than a light interior. I actually ran 50% in the front and 2 layers of 50% in the back. The police up here don't allow front tints. I wanted the 50%, and doubled it in the back. A friend of mine did hers at the same time with a light interior. She ran 35% all around and mine still look darker.

BTW...$100 installed...welcome to Newark!

Where in NH are you getting it done? I've been looking for a place, and haven't come up with anything, except for one store I've heard some strange things about...

huper optik is a different type of tint (ceramic) that works extremely well at keeping heat out compared to other non-ceramic films. It looks more reflective too, so if you want something that has a flat black look, this is not the one to choose. And for radar, i heard that this blocks more signals, but dont hold me to that.

I would probably just get the llumar and save some $$ (i like the flat black look). Most tint shops also have lifetime warrantys for fading, bubbling, etc. so ask about that as well. And personally, i think 35% is too light for our cars (there is no stock tint from the factory). I understand the laws set a 35% limit, but if the cops in your area dont enforce it, then no harm is done. Good luck

Llumar metalic here as well. I picked mine up from a coworkers friend for $90. Enough to do my car and my wifes Honda accord.

The install was a little more tricky than conventional tint since its thicker, but man is it worth it.

Wife is talking about getting rid of the honda, so I got a partial roll sitting in the garage collecting dust. :icon_mad:

most cops, at least down here don't give tints a second thought, a lot of my buddies drive around w/ 5% on all windows, and they have never had any problems w/ the law. But again, it definitely varies from state to state.

I think 5% is a bit too dark; it actually makes driving at night a little difficult...

and is sketchy in the day??

I used to have 5% ontop of 5% on my truck. never got pulled over or even asked about it. Then again it was a pickup truck that was lifted, law enforcement seems to ignore trucks more then that shiny red car driving by.

FWIW, my area at home (Long Island, NY) does not really care about tints. However, at my school in upstate NY, I have been pulled over 3 or 4 times already. I also heard that NYC is a little more strict in enforcing tint laws. Its all dependent on the enforcement in your area. Maybe try tintdude.com or ask the installer, they should know how harsh the enforcement is.

I have an appointment for 35% in 2 weeks for my new 06 Legacy, and there is definitely a factory tint to the windows right now. Not a lot, but it's there.

I just picked up my 05 Lgt wagon. I had Formula One installed. 50% (any darker is a no no) 15% the rest. I think it is there Comfort Series, $125. The Premier was like a mirror, and the Ultimate has a green tint.

There aren't any bubbles, wrinkles and if there are any problems, they will be taken care of. I want to take photos, but my GF took my camera.

itzed: your right, there is. I guess what i meant to say is that the tint is very very light compared to other manufacturers. My two friends (one with an accord and the other a camry) both have 20% tints and when compared to mine (which is also 20%), my tints look non-existant
