16psibrick
finally got home from a long week of work in NYC...where i traveled to perform an install on aG35 coupe at the customers house... before i get into the install, just wanted to say that this will probably be the last time i travel to a hot and humid climate in the middle of summer lol... working 10 hours a day under the sweltering sun outdoors with limited tools is definetly hard on the body lol...also... when the customer told me that he had a table saw, i sorta expected something more htan this very old unit with about a 10" cut and no guide lol "thanks buddy! ;)" those are 7" wireties on the table saw to give you a sort of reference point hehe... http://simplicity.elitecaraudio.org/petesaw.jpg but in the end, blood, sweat, tears and a lot of mcguyverness working around the lack of tools and proper work conditions yielded a decent result the goals were: 1. good sound quality 2. clean install with some flash 3. incorporate the two 10w7s the customers already has first of all, the car itself looks great! clean, and the pearl white is fantastic... http://simplicity.elitecaraudio.org/petecar.jpg so lets get started: the headunit is a new pioneer 6800 7" LCD headunit with 6 disc dvd changer. its pretty much identical in size as the Z1, so fitting it into the double din coversion kit wasnt a problem: http://simplicity.elitecaraudio.org/peteg1.jpg from the headunit, the signal flows to an audio control DQT digial 31 band 1/3 octave eq. the remote control of the unit we ran back upfront and flsuhed into the upper storage cubby, this presents a totally stealth set up: http://simplicity.elitecaraudio.org/peteg2.jpg http://simplicity.elitecaraudio.org/peteg3.jpg and when its time to do any tuning, its easy to simple pop the unit out and tune the car from the comfort of your seat: http://simplicity.elitecaraudio.org/peteg4.jpg to keep up with two w7 woofers, a DLS ultimate iridium 3 way component set was used. the doors were completely dampened and a fiberglass pod build into the door to give the woofer a quasi enclosure, and the midrange and tweets are installed into suede trimmed factory kicks as usual. I dont have pics of hte doors as the customer took those pics, i will share them when he emails them to me http://simplicity.elitecaraudio.org/peteg5.jpg http://simplicity.elitecaraudio.org/peteg6.jpg
16psibrick
andt hen there is the trunk. the challence of course, again, is to fit so many big things in such a small trunk. the stillen struct brance adds an additional challnege since hte jl subs are pretty deep. basicaly, a fake floor was built with blaack vinyl, the subs and amps are trimmed in pearl white suede, and the crossovers for the DLS is displayed as well. the subs sit in their own 2.25 cub feet combined box. the nine.2x provides 200 watts to each side of the front stage, and the nine1x provides well over 1000 watts to the subs. http://simplicity.elitecaraudio.org/peteg7.jpg http://simplicity.elitecaraudio.org/peteg8.jpg http://simplicity.elitecaraudio.org/peteg9.jpg http://simplicity.elitecaraudio.org/peteg10.jpg overall, i am very happy with how it sounds, the bass is simply insanely loud, i have to keep the gain very low and it was still too loud for my own personal taste haha...but the good thing is the front stage is up to the challnege of keeping up with them... too tired to write more now, perhaps the customer can chip in with his comments... thanks to pete for being a gracious and accomodating hose...expect the table saw part

laz
Very nice, but my question is, did this guy fly you out just for this job, or where you here on other business, and just decided to do this job for him? I mean it is really nice work, but really expensive if he had to fly you out from California! I know we have places here that do that type of work as well. 16psibrick
well, it comes down to this I guess: Cost of a round trip airline ticket: 400 dollars Cost of having a few of the truly "trusted" shops in his area to do his car: $3500-$4000 Cost of having me do this install(factoring the cost of airline tickets): $2000 less than what he was quoted for Being able to get a clean install done, and knowing exactly whats in the vehicle, and save up to $2000: Priceless i

laz
Oh wow, 3500 to 4K quote? wow. Second question, where in NY did you go? X ---
16psibrick
i was in queens for the most part yeah, the issue with shops is almost wlays this, you either find cheaper shopsbut cant be sure of their quality, or the really high end shops usually charge a lot... 3500-4k for labor, mateirals, fiberglass, all cables and wiring, headunit custom fit, dampening etc...isnt that outrageous to be honest just go to a show and ask some of hte hgiher end cars how much they spent on labor, 10-20k is pretty common

Holland
hehe cool, you can be my second LGT customer the first one, so far, is pretty happy Nah, not THAT soon, but I am planning to buy a Legacy sometime next year (hooray new job!) and I'd need some DVD/navi options to be explored with a factory navi piece and rigged with the factory 6-disc changer. First, I'll have to have the car. I'm just getting ahead of myself, but that's the major drawback with LGT's, but I'm sure there's work arounds. Hahaha. laz
^^^ You might as well save up and buy the LGT with Navi, unless of course you are going with the 5 MT. Once again, very nice work, and it is great that you work nationally! You were on my backyard since I live in Queens. X ---
