What did you drive back in High School?

1929 Ford model A Tudor. Bought it for $80 (not looking like the photo above!) when I was 14 in 1967, and gas was $0.35/gallon US. Drove it until I was a HS senior, and sold it for $800. Then got a '68 VW Beetle convertible, '69 FIAT 124 Sport Wagon, '75 VW Scirocco, '81 Dodge Colt (Mitsu Mirage) Twin Stick hatchie. Then 17 years of automatic Ford pick-up trucks ('87 2.9 Ranger and '97 F-150), 1958 MGA Roadster, 2002 Subaru WRX Sport Wagon, and possibly a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT LM Sedan???? -- Steve Avon, Ohio 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon ______ 1958 MGA Roadster ______ 1991 Mazda Miata MX-5______ 2002 Audi A6 2.8q

I had three cars wilst in high school: 1984 Ford Thunderbird 5.0L, 1992 Ford Escort GT, and a 1975 Cadillac Sedan de Ville. My Thunderbird (aka Thunderhawk, Thunderchicken, Thunderturd, SS Turd) was quite a beast! It was my first car which I bought when I was 16 for $1100. I thoroghly beat the crap out of that car on a daily basis and I'm very surprise it lasted as long as it did in my tyrannical teenager hands. For some reason a hiljack guy I worked with convinced me that I needed to take the mufflers and cats off of my car... so I did  That thing sounded like a monster! After a year of having it I got into a nast alley wreck (not my fault) and the car was totalled. Luckily enough State Farm actually gave me $1400 for the car so I was happy for that but very sad to see the Legend go. And yes that car was a True Legend in the annuals of Illinois history! Also with this car came the now infamous LEGEND OF THE WHITE POSSUM!!! ***Don't ask, its too silly! The Escort was a true marvel as well, I had it in my mad scientist mechanic days of high school. It was a great test car for any great "Jimmy-Rigging" idea I had whenever. My greatest feat was putting a 4" exhaust and a tractor muffler on it. Mind you that I was an idiot teenager so I thought it would be cool  :D Anyway that exhaust was run through a huge pipe and a small a$$ muffler so it ended up being extremely loud for whatever reason. I was also stupid in that I was one of those kids who thought if you car was loud that means its really fast  I pissed so many people off with that bucket of s***! In the end it recieved an even harder thrashing than the Turd did and eventially fell apart, literally. Henceforth I had to sell it to another mad scientist type and bid farewell to it. It was the best damn car I had ever driven up until the Outback. The Caddy was a total (rusted out) pimp mobile. This thing was a brick of s*** on the outside although the interior was immaculate. The front and rear seats could be taken out of the car and be used as couches as for how large they were. That car was 22 feet long bumper to bumper and weighed over 3 tons, let alone having a 500ci Big Block V-8. This thing was great for doing burnouts, mowing down road signs, deer hunting (literally WITH the car), and any other acts of general stupidity. It was a total boony cruiser which also made well for any... action ;)

91 legacy wagon (FWD) 5-spd....ah so many fun memories....that 2.2 was gorgeous with good tires (michelins) or yokos...that thing was sure-footed like an arctic cat even tho it was FWD...it liked to dig into the snow while my frens toyotas and hondas and nissans just glided....leaving very little room for error for them. my buddies borrowed my car on real snowy days if they had to travel to mpls/st paul for some urgent reason and always came back with nice compliments and some beer. changed tranny fluid just once and mobil 1 every 3.5-5k changed timing belt once alongwith cam seals but changed drive shaft/axle shafts like 3 times but that was my own fault..i would find gravel backroads and have fun...left a buddies 325 behind on gravel roads one too many times.....plus all those donuts and reverse donuts in the snow didnt help with the axles....brake feel was like wonder-bread the first 75% of the pedal-travel. It sits in the driveway now with 190K awaiting a new clutch and (u guessed it) drive shafts. But i wont put money into it...already got the 03 honda pilot....but am considering trading the pilot in for a LGT or TL will donate it and get a tax break.....but hate to part with it, due to sentimental value!!! oh wait i did have an 88 supra AT before it but that car was ghey....too many problems...it was like dating a high maintenance supermodel......engine siezed...got one from the JDM and had it replaced and sold it to a buddy who got hit(other guys fault) and totalled it. between the supra and getting the legacy i had a 80 something pontiac phoenix but the "PHO" were broken from the badge in the back so it was just an "ENIX"...pretty much a rust bucket that i got for $300 and spray painted it black and the rims and grills gold.... sold it for $350....not bad LOL

I drove an 87' VW Scirocco 16v. It was perfect. Then some guy ran into me and totaled it. It was the biggest pile of crap, yet I have the fondest memories of it. I guess that's what first cars do. Here's the only pic I ever had of it.

I was into 'sport compatcts' way before they were cool (and before I figured out v-8s were the way to go if you were after fast)... First car was a 1972 Toyota Corona I bought from my sister for $200. It got a header/exhaust and a downdraft Weber carb (we were really high tech then LOL). Ran great, but not fast. Always dreamed of transplanting a Buick 3.8 turbo v-6.... Second was a 1974 Ford (yes Ford) Capri. This was the Euro Capri, 2.8 v-6 and pretty good handling for the time. It got a built motor, 4bbl carb, etc... It seemed fast at the time, but prolly ran 15.s. Got stolen/stripped. Always dreamed of either a turbo kit, or a 302 v-8 swap. It was a fun and oddball car, kind of like the Merkur XR4Ti is now...
