agctr
I have to admit guys, when I first got the car, I spent a bit of time at the dealership, but not too long. To be honest, I havent had that many dramas. The hook is just that, a hook to grap the carpet, not biggy in my books. If the motor kept falling out well thats another story. Trust me, these things are bulletproof and you will be hard up proving me otherwise. Get out of the dealerships for the crappy little things and enjoy yr ride. Let them fix these little issues when its in for service. Adam.
GranTourer
That a carpet hook is, hopefully, the biggest issue says a lot about Subaru's quality. I'm glad that I'm sweating small stuff and not drivetrains, trannys, etc. :) BTW, a snap fastener and 3 small patches of velcro did wonders! ih8vtec13
i cant see the point of all the drama here its just a stupid hook let it fall off tell the dealer and get it fixed or do the velcro and snap thing mentioned above and still tell the dealer, and call subaru and complain. i know that all the legacy owners in the world are not here and they are getting pissed about it too, so enough calls and they will redesign and recall it. btw Adam my mom had a SUBARU LEMON andwhen i told her i wanted the WRX when it first hit the states, i was ready bo dodge puches by the look on her face. It was the first year imprezaand the car kept dying on her and a horrible dealership couldnt fix it and she couldn't get help from the corprate office here because it was around thanksgiving (big holiday here where we eat way too much if you didnt know) and christmas, so after 2 years with the subaru she pumped it for a brand new 95 camry that i bought of her and moded and am trying to sell. so subies do have their issues but i think if all goes well with my gt her next car will be an out back or legacy wagon:D
powbmps
I bought one of those spring loaded drywall anchors (3/16", metal). I slipped it through the hole in the carpet and threaded a bolt down into it. It works awesome, won't break, took 5 minutes to fix and cost me less than a buck. Chris S. GTLegs
Guys I love my new Legacy GT L and I will not let a little carpet hook spoil my fun... although it would be nice to not have to pull it back from under the pedals when I get in.
firedawgs
I love my Legacy too. But the more people that tell Subaru, the faster the will put a fix for it. Updated my vBGarage:
fjork_duf
My dad has a '04 forester and has the same issue with the carpet hook. I think it probably is a more widespread subaru problem. The hook is meant to keep the carpet from sliding, and not support the weight of the driver getting in and out of the car. I am guessing some people hang on the steering wheel when they get in and out of the car and use their right foot to stand themselves up. If you just hang your left foot out of the car first then stand up with that you'll probably have less of a problem breaking carpet hooks. Just my $0.02. Before I get flamed, I don't deny there is a flaw with it...
Blaze
Luckily I haven't had the issue yet, but I've noticed that it sticks up pretty far out of the mat....so I can see how one could put a lot of weight on it, especially when getting in & out of the car. The first week I keep accidentally putting my heal on it, and would have to look down to try to figure out what the hell I was stepping on...it felt pretty weird. jennjay
I got a call from my dealer that a new hook was in and it has a different part number so they are assuming its redesigned. I'll told them I'll stop in when I get a chance. I'll let you all know.
canis
Got my new hook this weekend. Definitely a different part. Instead of being a two-piece snap, the new hook is a a one-piece thingy that you elongate to fit through the carpet hole, and then flatten. It spreads out and fastens in the middle, pinching the carpet. Time will tell if it's a better design or not. Oh, and it's not actually a hook anymore. It's a knob. Thus, less horizontal area to kick with your foot.

When I picked my car up, I noticed one of the mechanics must have knocked my snap faster right from the carpet  How they managed to rip the fastener's teeth from underneath the carpet, I have no clue. zcarmob
Canis, That hook sounds exactly like what was on my 2000 2.5RS. That one is almost as bad as the one in the car now. The thing will make the carpet oblong and keep falling out but stay hooked to the floor mat.
ih8vtec13
Its been close to 4000 miles and i still have mine. there was one time i kicked it pretty hard amd i got scared but its still there. maybe they did the redesign allready and are testing it the newer ones, i got my car oct. 12th and this post has been active for a month prior. as for the guy with the new hook design, they way have given you the 2.5 RE to keep you out of the shop, or the wrong part both cars are 2.5. jennjay
I got my "new" hook today. Sorry to say it looks exactly like my old hook. Dealer states this is the new part with a different part number, I'll wait and see if it holds on. I'm not sure why canis's new hook looks different, please include a pic if possible. I'm going to order custom mats from cocomats.com . They sent me a swatch and it is a thick pile mat, very heavy, hopefully with less hook exposed to kick it won't come off. It will take 3 to 5 weeks to get mats though. I hope it lasts that long. The mats look really nice on their website.

Ninjapimp
MACRO, man, MACRO! It's hard to make it out in your pic, but it still looks like mine and I got a pre-airbag fix version.... Why wouldn't they just put an upper and lower grommet instead of the hook I wonder?

fbi012
ok I guess i'll try to get smaller and clearer pictures, its just that it looks fine on my camera's screen but when I move it to my computer its too big and not so clear! :|
Deer Killer
you're going to need to use manual focus for that.
Blaze
Or a macro mode should work. You may need to use a seperate light source though if it's that close to the lense.
