Tide
In running this site over the past few years I have generally been very impressed with the detail knowledge of many of the Legacy owners here. In purchasing my own spec.B this past year I began "using" the site as I'm sure many do in search of specific information. I didn't always easily find things I wanted to know. If you look around the tech forums here we have lots of stickies. Lots. As well as forums just for walkthroughs. I came to the basic conclusion that even as much as I tried to neatly and intelligently organize the large amount of information here, that the basic design of the site is a forum... built for discussion and information organization is merely an afterthough. I looked at the information tools I use day to day for work and other hobbies and thought, why can't we have something like this for the Legacy community, a place to share, link, and donate all the knowledge into an organized site -- also known to some as a wiki. Moreover, why not have one for the entire Subaru community. So I'm launching SubiWiki.com as an answer to my problem with knowledge organization here, and I'd like everyones help here in getting the Legacy content squared away to better help current and future Legacy owners. The site right now is pretty bare, but I'm working on it and I'd like you too as well. As an added incentive, I'm going to offer the 5 best contributors there an article of LegacyGT swag of their choice (hoodie, tshirt, polo, etc), to be decided by July 5th. We'll probably offer a poll over here to let the community decide. Accounts there are required to add/edit pages. crash
Tide, If you'd like the skin that http://350z-tech.com is using, I can give it to you.. I'm planning on modifying it for our local Subaru group to use here in Birmingham. Also, http://350z-tech.com should give you some great ideas on how to organize a car wiki. The guy over there has spent tons of time organizing the site and it works pretty well (unlike some wikis). Also, I recommend that you publicize this pretty hard at NASIOC and USMB as there are a TON of super knowledgeable people on those sites.

crash
Here's the correct way to organize a car technical wiki:http://www.350z-tech.com/zwiki/Portal:350Z Organizing it like we do the site is one of the problems. It is really difficult to find the information. I have the skin that is used on 350z-tech and I can provide it... One needs to play with it to see how the guy used templates to make those boxes and stuff on the portal page. Also notice that he has more than one car model covered on the site. That is another thing we have to consider in order to make it work. I've said it before but we have to get other sites behind this. Tide this needs to be advertised on all of the other subaru sites like NASIOC and scoobymods!!!!
RippinRoo
Ya, I checked out the 350z-tech site since you mentioned it in post #11. The pages look very nice, with images for each of the topics. The side bars for tutorials and FAQs are really nice too. That's beyond my Wiki capabilities, but if someone else can do that, go for it. However, I disagree, imho, that the 350z-tech site is the "correct" way to organize the data. For instance, I view suspension and wheels&tires together as an overall "Handling" topic, whereas 350z-tech treats them seperately. Any overview on handling should cover wheels&tires as they are a fairly important component of that topic. Similar idea for other topics. Where do I find "Exterior Maintenance" on the 350z-tech site? Of course that's one of the nice things about a Wiki... I laid out the informational hierarchy the way I thought was logical; if you don't like it, you are certainly free to go in and change things around. I do agree we need to consider the different models and different years covered on this site. That's another nice thing about Wikis, they're loosely structured and easily reconfigurable. For instance, if we find that all models basically use the same set of bulbs for interior and exterior lighting, then it's just a matter of all models referencing the same "Bulbs" page. If the "Handling Overview" or "Tire Selection" is applicable to all models, then all the links can all go to the same page. If there are pages that are 90% duplicated, then combine the two and kill one. I don't think this kind of stuff has to be figured out now; the Wiki can be reconfigured any time by "anyone". I'd actually be thrilled to see THIS site behind the Wiki to start with... I've seen one article submitted so far... RippinRoo
Seems like a lot of the "look" of the pages is going to require template work... Not my area of strength. It's the template that can significantly improve the "usability" of the Wiki... including the side boxes, "breadcrumbs", links to related sections, etc. "I love the feel of wind in my face and boobies against my back." - BMW motorcycle rider
