andrek
Is the standard cd player of the Legacy capable of playing mp3 files?
Guest JessterCPA
No. Only the high-model Outback is MP3 compatible. :(

brad21
Are we talking about MP3 files burned onto a CD? If so then the answer would be yes. I believe I have the standard 6 disc in-dash player in my LGT Wagon and it will play burned CD's with .wma and .mp3 files just fine.
Red98GT
I have spoken to the dealer about this as my loaner 2.5i said something in the manual about MP3's. We checked through and found that the manual covers both the Legacy and Outback lines, therefor the manual describes 3 different radios. The base unit in the 2.5i, the midrange which comes in all the GT models and the 3.0R. Then there is the Premium in the 3.0R VDC which has MP3 capabilities. The only visible differences between the GT and VDC radios is the TEXT button on the console. I have tested in my GT and it will not play an MP3 data cd as my old aftermarket headunits would.. If they are converted to RAW and the CD is created as a normal audio then it does work fine. Hope this helps..
andrek
Yes, I was referring to mp3 files burned onto a cd. And not about WAV files. So, Brad21 is able to play these files and according to Red98GT it is not possible. So can anyone give more information about this?
Th3Franz
The mp3's would have to be burned to a CD as an audio disc. So the disk would play back just like a regular audio CD and it could only hold about 80 minutes of music or whatever. -Franz The end of a Legacy http://www.youtube.com/th3franz
