yea, I saw that, it's a bit of a hike for me to head up there.. it's like another 1 hour away from State College, making it a 4 hour trip.. I went last year, but I didnt run, I was there to just take pictures.. fun course, that's for sure... still debating about heading all the way up.. I would have to leave my house at 4 am at the latest..

post up and let me know how you guys did.. I would have come up, but I really need to work on cars on a Sunday day like this... my autox on Saturday with the BMW club in my E30 was really soaking wet through the downpour rain...

I would like to say, I really NEED some more practice in a RWD car.. the original owner of my E30 showed me that 4 years of experience in that car squeezed out 3 seconds of time:

Mark = 49.8xx

Keefe = 52.3xx

I'll need to get into more practice in the rain.

It was a really fun time. My best was 42.658 clean, though I got a 42.294 with a cone. I was running Cobb AP Stage 1, completely stock otherwise (including RE92s). Mike did great considering it was his second time ever autocrossing. Considering our cars have a ton of body roll and weigh 3400 lbs empty, I'd say our times were decent. FTD was a red Civic with 36.xxx. The other fastest cars (Vettes, modded F-bodies, Integra Type-Rs, modded Civics, a modded Mustang GT) were in the 38 second range. One of my friends from the car club is a rally co-driver. He hopped in to a bunch of cars and drove them, usually faster than the owners, including me. My friends had the following times: Celica All-Trac, modded suspension/wheels/engine: 41.5, RSX-S modded suspension/wheels/engine: 42.2, RX-8 stock: 45.7, 325i stock: 46.x, 325i stock (rally guy): 43.2, my LGT (rally guy): 42.3, F-mod car: 43.2 (wasn't running right)

I figure since this forum doesn't get too much traffic I should be ok with linking these over. These are all people from the Penn State car club, except for the M3. Mike's in the passenger seat in the pictures of my car.

I dunno, doesn't really matter. I'm not going for points or anything.

Found the part in the rule book about camera mounting.

Pg 26. 3.3.3 B

B. Inspection Requirements

1) All loose items, inside and outside the car, must be removed.

Passenger’s seat back and squab shall be secured. Video

cameras, if installed, must be securely mounted to withstand

loads from driving maneuvers. The camera may be installed

either inside or on the outside of the car. In either case, its

mounting method and position must not interfere with driving

or pose an additional hazard to driver, passenger, or

course workers.

So basicly, according to that blurb, which is the only thing mentionins camera's in cars, you could duct tape the camera to the hood and as long as you can prove that it's not gonna fall off durring the run, it's cool.

My understanding is that a boost-altering reflash automatically qualifies for Street Prepared. :confused: At least that's what the local autoX gurus have told me.

boost is not even allowed in Street Prepared classes (see ESP/BSP STis). It's for Prepared and Street Modified and Modified classes. There's a difference in Street Prepared and Prepared classes..

you are allowed to change timing/ignition and fueling, but not boost. Apexi AFCs and other fuel ratio controllers are allowed as well as any other timing unit or Variable Timing Engine Control units are allowed (like the Apexi VTEC controllers are allowed). It's to keep the playing field fair for the rest of the NA motor guys.

yeah, we had an issue with a guy yesterday. The officials wouldn't let him mount his camera on the side glass using SIX(6) suction cups. The official kept saying it could fall off and hurt someone. When he tried to pull it off, he almost ripped the window off the car. The guy was an asshat (official, not the driver)

there were a couple people that were harrassed by that guy. In one instance he tried to tell someone they couldn't race due to something on their car, but then he couldn't even find it in the rulebook

Usually, I just teather an additional strap onto the mount and then tie it around the door handle to prevent it from become a projectile (and to make sure the asshat officials not worry about it). If the official really understood how well the Chasecam mounts are, then he shouldn't have to worry about it.

I am not to familar with the people at Central PA SCCA, but normally for them to look at my GT, they wouldnt bother me, same goes with the RS. I usually just bring my rule book with me to other regions in case they have issues with the things I have on the car. But most of the time, I would email them in advanced and just let them know that I am available to help out as a ride-along instructor for anyone that need it. I have yet bump into a region where I wasn't welcome and thanked for my help.

My understanding was the the rule was changed this year to let me run in FSP instead of SM. It's not like I'm going to win anything anyways.

On another note, the central PA guys are a little anal. The first time I went, the tech guy opened the hidden compartment in the trunk and made me take the stuff out of there. :roll: As if it's going to randomly fly open, and then everything in there is going to somehow vault over 2 sets of seats to hit me in the head?

Technically, the GT belongs in ESP, FSP was the old class before the 2005 GT was ever classified in ANY of the catagories. The DC region chairman and I talked to the National Committee 2 years ago when I bought the GT and sorted out the GT and got it classed correctly as DS, ESP, EM, STU, and SM. It does help for the guys who are going to win trophies.. the more people you have in one class, the more trophies they award (in most cases for the the smaller regions or like the Subaru Challenge Events). Usually, if there are only 5 or less entrants for the class, only one 1st place trophy is given. If there are 6 to 10 entrants in the class, 1st and 2nd place are awarded.. Anything over 10 entrants, there are 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies. In my region back in the old says, with 20 drivers in one class, they use to give out 7 trophies. But it's now more correct to just give podium finishers:

http://solo.wdcr-scca.org/results/20060326.php

I can understand the tech inspection being anal. Things HAVE to be secured, especially for a entrant to never have ran with them in the past. They dont know you personally and you dont know them well enough of what they usually look for. So to be safe, they will knit-pick you. It's not so much of things flying out of the compartment and hitting the driver all the time, but leaving parts on the course which could be hazardous to the corner workers and possibly, for other cars to dodge it if the course was set up to run multiple cars at a time.

I've been doing this long enough to see all sorts of things flying out of the car, including trunk that wasnt completely closed AFTER tech inspection and the owner of the car left his cooler in the trunk and forgot to take it out as he was at the grid. He kept the cooler full of bottled water for himself and the tires.. well, needless to say, he got his DNFs for that run.
