warnoldscu
Just curious you norcal guys... I want to get involved in the autocross and track scene up here but don't know where to look. I'm thinking about scca but wanted to find some fellow subies. Where are you guys racing? I also just saw a thread about someone racing at Thunderhill... is this just a track day that you sign up for or is it part of a group or event of some sort? Thanks for the help! kster
For autox, there are at least three options: SF region of the SCCA http://norcalufo.org http://www.americanauto-x.com At the track, most of us don't race (maybe except for time trials). They instead are open track events with a driver's education theme. You can get into wheel to wheel racing but that's requires significant more money and resources. For open track events (or track days) find a local club, pay the fee and register. Most of them offer instructors for new drivers as well. Some good local clubs for newbies are: http://www.ncracing.org http://www.trackmasters-racing.com http://www.unlimitedlaps.com This is a good site for searching open track events by state: http://www.opentrackaction.com/event_search3.php Hope this helps. MDork
scca is best for autox. i stopped doing autox once i got into track days. im a big fan of nasa hpde's http://www.nasaproracing.com the others listed above are great too. thunderhill is a great first track because it has sooo much runoff and events are often cheaper than sears or laguna ($$$). H2OSB
I've run with both American Autocross Series and SCCA. In the last few years I've run at the San Joaquin County fairgrounds with the AAS and at Castle Airport (Atwater) with the SCCA. In fact, I just did an event on the 19th at the Atwater venue. It would be quite a drive for those of you in the Bay Area or San Jose, but I'm sure there are evens closer. Check here: http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2 AutoXing is extremely fun. I would love to have more Legacy guys out there. At the event this last weekend, there were 5 Subarus, four of which were WRXs. H2OSB
