PhilT
btw, RUF is pronounced "ROOF", not "Rough", and Porsche is pronounced "Por-sha", not "Porch" It depends where you come from on how you pronounce it, do you say Paris or Paree ? So, to most of the English speaking world, it's Porsh, unless you're wearing a leather thong, then you can say Porsha Double Award Winning Legacy GT Wagon

jsalicru
One time, about 5 years ago, I was on my way to the strip on my Celica. (this was in Puerto Rico) I stopped at the ATM to get money out... get back in the car, go out to the street. I am on the right lane, first in line. I look out my side mirror.. and walla.. there's a RUF 911 Twin Turbo pulling up to the light. Blue, RUF kit, RUF wheels, etc. His trunk (front panel) was open. So, I honk the horn, he lowers his window. An older guy. I tell him that his trunk was open but that I would be more than glad to help him out. He acknowledged. I got out and closed it. The light turns green. He tells me his name and that if I ever need anything blah blah blah... I tell him, I just want to see one thing... Let it rip! Light is still green. Nobody has honking the horn even... Maybe they knew what was about to happen... His answer: "Well, I sure didn't buy this car to not show it off" He then revs it at smacks the rev-limit about 2-3x, and does a FULL THROTTLE AWD lauch! Spun all four wheels for about 30-40 feet and took off like a rocket!! Sorry, just had to share that. "some say, his arms are made of coiled adamantium fibers. Rubix973
Is it just me or does this car look like a hybrid 997 with a 996 targa roof? (not RUF ...) I mean a glass roof that slides inside the rear window, which itself opens like a hatch. It also has pointed rear quarter windows. (I like the more organic rounded ones in the regular coupe, though.) I didn't think Porsche made a 997 with the sliding glass targa roof. I think they made precious few 996s that way. (I wish they had put that roof in the 996 Carrera 4S, though...) I suppose with that kind of cubic currency, they could cut the roof off of a targa, and weld it in place on a 997, and do the rest of those gemballa mods. Targa model Porsches were only made in the 996 bodies and only produced for one year (I believe) in 1996. I was in my freinds '96 targa a few days ago and at least thats what he told me. The top is awesome, all the benefits of a convertible but doesnt lose any structural rigidity and its cool to have a huge piece of glass over your head . Porsche should most definitely produce another targa in this current 997.

jsalicru
LOL, well, judging that my friend works on Porsches for a living, its a non-issue now. They have a RUF RGT (GT3) there with headers, exhaust, MOTONs, Custom Kinesis wheels, RUF RGT body, etc. In addition, they have 1 911 RSR race car, a 94 911 C2 with a 3.8L running TWIN GT30s... They had a real 959 there about a year ago. It was there when I did the clutch on my STi. They made custom CNC 4-point harness brackets for a CGT about 6 months ago. Currently they are waiting for their Cayman to arrive. They already have Motons, Kinesis wheels and a X51 motor WAITING for the car... "some say, his arms are made of coiled adamantium fibers. jsalicru
Well, they are anxiously waiting for it. Another company claimed to be the first with the X51 package on a Cayman.. however, they haven't done a single one, including the car they show pictured with the cup kit. My friend, a Porsche certified tech, already knows what he needs to do to get it done. Hopefully I can get some pictures once things get under way. Cayman with X51 and re-programmed ECU means 400hp+ Cayman.. WHEW. "some say, his arms are made of coiled adamantium fibers. And that he tops his cereal with nuts and bolts. The top is awesome, all the benefits of a convertible but doesnt lose any structural rigidity and its cool to have a huge piece of glass over your head . Porsche should most definitely produce another targa in this current 997. That is what I thought. limited run, few produced... but that black gemballa 997 (has the entire lower body of a 997, from the look of the join lines on the body panels...) looks like it has the targa roof... has to be a transplant, or a very unique body-in-white from Porsche to Gemballa. I wished they had turned the targa into a techquipment option, or something. an option that can be specified to order on any of the 911 trim lines. Carrera 2, 4, Carrera S, Carrera 4S... maybe even turbo, but definitely on the naturally aspirated 911s... I always liked the wide look of the 996 C4S, and wished it had the targa's glass roof and hatch glass, with a bit of metal filling work done to the targa's c-pillar, to allow the fitment of the regular coupe's rounded rear quarter glass, and that organic c-pillar shape. But that is getting into some fairly custom work... Although the pointed rear quarter glass does give that Gemballa car, and the other porsche 996 targas a very unique side profile, different than any other 911. interesting, but almost too ordinary. (looks a bit like cavalier quarter windows...)
