No loud but knocking sound from engine

Recommended Posts

Finally somebody who knows what I'm talking about. :iam::lol:

I hear the exact same thing sometimes. On and off. Usually when idling. That makes three of us with 4eat N/A's that hear it. Could it be normal?:iam:

My forester did the exact same thing. Was the water pump. Ball bearing had gone bad or something like. The replaced it and never had the problem again. It might not be that but everything you describe matches what mine did and sounded exactly.

I think I'm experiencing the same annoying sound. It's not loud, but it's there and it definitely doesn't sound right. And you can only hear it from the inside. It sounds like something that should be coming from an 86 Ford Escort, not an 05 Legacy (2.5i in my case).

I'm taking it in for this and my other problems (see "Idle issue when defrost is on") on Friday.

I have a WRX and I hear that noise sometimes as well, it comes and goes, exactly what you are describing. I don't think there is anything wrong, mine does not burn oil, has 60K on the odo, and pulls just like new.

Any revelations/resolutions to this? My 05 5EAT LGT is making a similar "heavy rattle" at low RPMs. Almost 98K mi and oil always changed/no leaks/not low.

Still a mystery???

It wasnt doing it before. I think you guys are talking about the ticking noise. The ticking noise is there. But there is a kluck kluck kluck sound that you can only hear in the inside of the car. I poped the hood to check it out and all I could hear was tick tick tick. Inside the car I can hear the tick tick tick but also a kluck kluck kluck sound. I heard the kluck kluck kluck sound before then it went away and now its back.

Sorry, but I had to laugh reading this.
