Need help... 20k car.

Recommended Posts

Ok - I'm ready for the flames ahead of time but bear with me.

Check out a recent-model Lincoln Continental. I know - quit laughing. You can get a damn-near-new-looking example, say 97-01, starting at $8k. I mean one with low miles too. Yeah, it's FWD, but it'll do everything you're looking for and you could get two of 'em within your budget and still have money to spare.

The DOHC 4.6 will run forever, and at 270+ hp it's no slouch. The adjustable suspension and steering resistance is actually noticable behind the wheel. It's a killer commute car - awesome seats and nice JBL sound system w/ sub.

Find a clean, low mileage example and give it a test drive. At worst you'll waste an hour or two of your time but you might just be surprised. FWIW, the rims on the older models look better; the newer ones have optional rims that look cheap to me.

Examples:

Dark gray 99, 45k miles, $10k:

1998 model with 17 pictures: http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=185986635

For one passenger only, and two door... (along side most of the sedans I and others have mentioned...)

Ummm...

3-series BMW coupe.

Acura CL

Perhaps a used automatic G35 Coupe. (might do really well for what you want...)

Saab 900-series/9^3 coupe, if you like saabs. Although the 9^3 sedan isn't bad looking, if you can stand the interior styling.

Low mileage Riviera coupe, Reatta, Caddilac Allante... but those are getting old, and needing maintenance.

Lexus SC coupe.

Nice, low mileage SVX would be well under your financial mark, for maintenance money.

Merc CLK... Or make your wife REALLY happy with a used SLK.

Then there is always the old Porsche 911 route, but that is probably more intensive than you are looking for.

Probably not an RX8 for commuting bumper to bumper. Burning oil and gas while not going anywhere.
