spec e30?

Recommended Posts

325is, more power and LSD included, now if you just want a track car, 318 will be just dirt slow, so it will be really easy to drive. Any case, the best bet is to get the car in working condition that you can just track with.. get familar and really good with the track, because once you start racing, everything that you learn from High Performance Driving Events about the "line" goes out the window. Best off to learn the track more so than getting the car ready for racing. Just get the car in a good working and trackable condition and you'll be fine.

Currently Salazar Racing has about 6 325's to work with which I think we'll end up having 7 or 8 drivers just for our region from Salazar. I am currently reworking my E30 for SpecE30 ready for next year when I go for my super comp license... I'll spend this year and next year getting familar with the car and get it all sorted out.

Edit: here are some pics of Salazar Racing running the Enduro events this past weekend - http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28469

I knew you would hear my call Keefe. Yeah I have been going back and forth over which to get. The four cylinder seems to be a good engine, but its slow. Plus the 318is seems to be harder to find. You can get 325is for 2-3.5k around here in goo working condition. Everyone runs the 325 in specE30 so the weight rules are not written with the 318 in mind. I have to go my wife scared me off the internet.

Thanks,

Bayano

Spec Miata?

Agreed.

Why not take a good hard look at Spec Miata, or if you have, why have you decided against it? Personally, it seems to be a more cost effective series. The cars and parts are all newer and more readily available. The cars also seem to be much more evenly matched, making the racing about the driver instead of the car. While the fields are also larger, this could make the racing all the more competetive.

On the other hand you could be "emotionally" tied to the Spec E30 series, in wich case there really is no changing your mind. If that's the case...what Xenock said.

acoording to the spec general NASA concenus, E30s is generally cheaper than SpecMiata.. also, there's more room in a SpecE30 that you can have everything you need all packed up in the car.

I bought my 89 325is (160k miles) with a half cage, 3 sets of r-comps, 2 sets of wheels, suspension, exhuast, seats, harnesses and a bunch of spare parts for just $1500!!! Keep looking around, you'll find a good buy.

I'll take some pics tomorrow.. I just bought mine from fellow racer who moved up to a Z06 to play with. I made a pretty simple deal that he can still track the car if he ever misses it.

I bought the car last november, but I have yet to do a full checklist to start working on the car to make it a SpecE30.. but here's a link of the rest of my team's Spec E30 cars:

Start with post #2:

To build up a competitive spec miata you're probably looking at about $10-15K.

Figure about $5-6K for the donor car with a hardtop, and $5-10k for the mods and labor (and paint if you want to look good too!). I'm looking for a donor car now and hope to have something up and running over the next year.

It sounds like Keefe got a great deal- the e30s seem much less expensive than running miatas- who would've thought racing bimmers would be cheaper than mazdas!

Yeah, I used to be afraid of BMWs, but it seems like a fairly cheap way to begin racing/ auto-x. Yeah Keefe did get a great deal, but he has been around long enough to get those type of "hook ups". I on the other hand am a newb, so I will continue my search.

it's true to some extent.. "M3" actually means "Money x 3".. and you know the M5

As for my E30, here it is with some r-comps driven by the previous owner (Salazar Racing teammate Mark who is our youngest driver and he's faster/better than me) of him running the car in DSP:
