red beast
here's a thread on a wrx owner who turned around his intake manafold to shorten up the distance to the fmic. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=922212
sandwood
I was just looking at this car yesterday at agile auto. It's cool but it's a lot of work, custom brackets etc. downtime of a week or so. and I think that guy is crazy to do it for an 18g, which spools quickly anyway. if he goes with a bigger turbo later, maybe. anyway, interesting to look at. getting out of the legacy game
red beast
my question is ...why would you run a thin wall fmic pipe right behind the radiator where it will pic up heat? http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/8/web/860000-860999/860754_23_full.jpg
NatesGr8
i think he said its all getting coated, if not it should be getting a powdercoat for a location like that.
red beast
i wonder if the temps would be lower if it was wrapped with "turbo" insulation stuff.

Xenonk
it's suppose be done like the JUN Impreza: http://www.superstreetonline.com/featuredvehicles/130_0304_jun/index.html http://superstreetonline.com/featuredvehicles/130_0304_jun_10_z.jpg http://superstreetonline.com/featuredvehicles/130_0304_jun_8_z.jpg http://superstreetonline.com/featuredvehicles/130_0304_jun_9_z.jpg http://superstreetonline.com/featuredvehicles/130_0304_jun_lead_z.jpg If you are gonna do it, do it right Keefe
Xenonk
my question is ...why would you run a thin wall fmic pipe right behind the radiator where it will pic up heat? It should be a V-mounted system (angled FMIC and Radiator, creating a < shape). Keefe
Xenonk
Some more non-sense USDM-influenced, JDM-engineered goodness (utilizing side air flow for drifting that divert air hitting the side of the car to be ported out through the back of the trunk): http://superstreetonline.com/featuredvehicles/130_0511_wrx/ http://superstreetonline.com/featuredvehicles/130_0511_wrx02_z.jpg http://superstreetonline.com/featuredvehicles/130_0511_wrx08_z.jpg http://superstreetonline.com/featuredvehicles/130_0511_wrx07_z.jpg (side note, still looking for adjustable lateral links such as these for the GT.. I think only a few companies in japan makes them for the GT.. still looking for someone to source them for me from Kansai Service). Keefe
sandwood
youre crazy if you think an 18g spools 'quickly' on a 2 litre I cd be wrong but I thought he did a 2.5 swap-out.... getting out of the legacy game
jsalicru
youre crazy if you think an 18g spools 'quickly' on a 2 litre Actually, I've sat in a 18G'd WRX before and didn't find the lag all that bad... Everyone seems to be used to these tiny hair dryer sized turbos... "some say, his arms are made of coiled adamantium fibers. And that he tops his cereal with nuts and bolts. All we know is, he's called the Jose."

Xenonk
Jun comes up with some swaps.. that WRX uses a 2.5 USDM STi motor, not their JDM 2.0 motor.. it was just some side info for those who want to see some of JUNs work.. they have been doing a lot of reverse-manifold designs in the past.. working with Tomei and other companies to come up with some very unique fitments..
