I can understand this guy checking out his options.. the best consumer is an informed consumer! Raises the bar for other manufacturers. But to think that SOA is gonna put in a 6MT because of forum feedback this late in the game is insane.. people at NASIOC have been requesting a 6MT for about 6 months now..
The new S/V40 is not going to be that much smaller than the GT and people will look at Volvo because they have strong marketing for safety also not to mention great customer care. If Volvo comes with the R it will make 300 HP so its not far off the mark, now I'm not a big 5 cylinder fan so the Volvo is probably out pretty quickly for me but anything is possible.
It's built on the Ford Focus and Mazda 3 platform.. it's gonna be much smaller methinks. edit.. the wheelbase of the new legacy will be about 3 inches longer from what I can gather.. so your right.. not much bigger.
..and the V40 is a compact wagon.. a compact.
I replaced my V40 with a WRX Wagon, slightly more luggage space in the Volvo but less rear leg room. New model is said to be slighlty bigger on the inside but roughly the same exterior dimensions. My WRX is twice the car the Volvo was, enough said.
If it takes a Legacy STi for a 6 speed I can respect there principles, but it can't hurt to ask or mention, I didn't mean to bother anybody.
DUDE! no worries.. your not bothering anyone.. if anything you brought some life to the board when you started posting.. i was getting bored before :lol::lol:
No disrespect to Subaru but not to the buyer thats interested in those Volvos.
Just stating my personal experiences and opinion, the new model could be a great car.

Personally with the value in Subarus and the aftermarket support, I see no reason to go to Volvo or Infiniti or BMW as the cost is far more, and I don't see them as nearly as much fun (though the BMW could be just as much, but the cost is a BIG offset.) There are some things they could do to improve the value, however, its already a nice step over the 2004 models, and we haven't see option packs yet for the 2005 MY. :D

I guess what this really all comes down to is we are all craving data and waiting is the hardest part. I for one will be all over my local dealer to cll me when the first cars come in. Peace gentlemen and ladies, we are all in this together. Who knows as a previous post mentions, if the 5 speed gearing is spaced right maybe it will work out fine. You all need to know thta my current lease is a Wolfsburg Jetta and I can't stand the 4000 RPM at 75-80 MPH.

My 97 LegGT pulls 3250 @ 72mph, not too back but a bit high for my tastes. At 75 I'd like to be pulling 3000rpm. Oh wait, the new GT Turbo should be pulling that or darn close to those numbers. I haven't been able to get a tire dia yet to get near exact figures. These are the figures with the tire size from last model. I just finished my opinion on the whole tranny ordeal in another thread, so I'll just leave it there for now. But for a side note, isn't it a V50 not a V40? I thought that it is a S40/60/80 are sedans and V50/70/90 are wagons of sorts. Obviously the 90 is a bit, umm, taller.
