BadMojo
Nice work.. I have a question... With your box setup like this (over the mat) will it be difficult to get to your spare tire? I really hope that somebody comes out with pre-formed sub boxes for my 06 Outback.. I don't think I could do the glass work myself, but a n enclosure like yours looks a hell of a lot better than a standard box.
mwiener2
the box isn't attached. It fits so perfectly that it holds itself in. A little fidgeting and it pops out. And I can still get to the tray without moving the box..(i kinda killed my battery during the install and had to grab the jumper cables...hehe) My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
MUD
Nice work! Did you follow the clearence specs for that sub... or just worked with the room you had? It is the disposition of men to desire that which he cannot have, hence my un-quenchable wet desire for Shakira!
mwiener2
i tried to get about .98cuft, which is what the sub spec'd, but o think i'm only around .889, which is close enough My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
G.T.Subie
CUSTOM ! Gotta love it and nice work. Is the box ported? Denial is your best friend
mwiener2
Sealed ported boxes are for thugs who think bass is the part of music that makes people look cool My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
G.T.Subie
Well technically bass is a part of music, but you make a good point. Here in Hoboken u get the boys from jersey city driving around that think bass is the only part of music.Oh yeah coffee can exhausts too. John M
A properly designed ported box doesn't sound boomy at all. It can if that's your goal but it doesn't have to. A ported box has much more control over the speaker while above the tuning frequency. If you designed it right, that means during 99.9% of the time. If you've got an 8dB hump at 50 Hz, expect it to sound bad. If you buy a sub & stick it in a pre-fab box then yes, expect it to suck. "Almost" is fine with sealed boxes but generics just don't cut it with a ported enclosure, and that goes double for a bandpass design. Don't hate the box -- hate the design! sgt
Some subs operate much more efficiently in ported boxes than in sealed ones. Ive built some ported boxes in the past that were about 95% as precise as sealed but were able to be just as loud with half as much power.
Boulderguy
I'm speculating here, but your box looks considerably bigger than 1 cu ft. Mine is smaller & came in at almost 1 cube. You may want to measure that sucker if you haven't already. Then again, if it sounds right... Nice touch going over the mat.
mwiener2
it's all put together and i'm not taking it apart agin just to fill it with peanuts to get a better idea of the Cuft casue it's not gonna change. My best guess is it's within +- 15% of the specified volume casue it sounds pretty good. I had a bag of laundry in the car today and it sounded a little better, so i think putting some stuffing in the box might help. not that it sounds bad...it sounds good right now My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons

mwiener2
update: Using a small piece of velcro to hold it in place. Hasn't moved an inch. Sounds spectacular. I love it. I got a waffle grill sub cover to help protect the sub. My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons

Aczwild
Well I think its time to build a custom box for my GT... http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y272/Aczwild/DSC00599.jpg Thanks for the pics, I have an idea now how to go about this. Oh and dont laugh at my ricer grille for the sub, its the only one I could find that had enough clearance for the excursion (with most others I could shoot the grille off) JDM'd All to hell Thanks Jimmy @ Hkc-Speed.com! mwiener2
that's only half rice. For full rice effect, you need to get the spinning 'spinners' type speaker grill My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
