red_suby
Do you know the lifetime for the H7 CB Cool Blue Halogen bulbs from Sylvania? I'm planning to buy this bulb. I just want to check whether it is worth buying this one. Thanks
mach_six
link for the LAZY I assume the rated life is in hours so it makes it 90 hours of course, it can still burn out from 1- 90 hours.

red_suby
Is it 90 days? or 90 hours?
Xenonk
90 hours?! HIDs are like 2000 hours.. and 2000 hours isnt a lot either, that's like driving at night for 1 hour for 5 years everday... 90 hours wont even survive 1 hour of night driving @ 6 months Keefe
emorphien
Well I wouldn't expect headlights to last as long as a 60 watt bulb but maybe it could, and if 90 is in days that's 90*24=2160 hours which seems reasonable.

Waxiboy
Osram SilverStars from PowerBulbs UK. SWP-LegacyGT
PIAA's for the H7 replacement aren't that great because they are the blue coated tip at the end which actually dimishes light out. The Osram SilverStars thankfully don't have that and can give more lumen outpu than the PIAA's do. Course it all depends on what you want. The Osram bulbs are whiter where the PIAA's give you a blue'ish white. As I said before though, these are are just temp. until you get Xenon's. red_suby
Do we have to disable DRL in order to install HID's/Xenon?
SWP-LegacyGT
Red Suby ~ Yes it is highly recommended. I disabled my DRL(see DRL mod)about a week or so ago and it's a pretty easy mod to do. (even for the people who are technically or otherwise scared of breaking something on their car; I'm here to tell you, it's pretty simple) Reason why you should disable your DRL is if you or your wife/g/f who ever else drives your car and turns the headlamps off, then there is a power voltage decrease to the HID bulbs thus causing damage to them. Xenon's (HID) use 35W as opposed to 55W as the stock H7 bulbs use. The DRL lights with the headlamps turned off use (I believe) 45W of power. Disabling the DRL will make sure you don't have damage caused to the HID bulbs and thus a prolonged life of the bulbs. Not to mention the coolness factor. (with the Xenon's added later ) I've already seen some LegacyGT's and non-GT's do a double take because I have my headlamps off. They're probably wondering "How the hell does he have them off?" Anyways, hope that answers your question.
red_suby
Thanks PDX. Is it easy to install HID in Legacy GT 2005? Any known issues with HIDs?
ldc2335
hardest part is finding a place to install the ballast and igniter on the drivers side., i ended up mounting it on the beam behind the battery..pain in the ass but well worth it.passenger side was pretty easy. autovizion ballast/igniters and muculloch 5000k bulbs http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/3206/s30101158px.th.jpghttp://img527.imageshack.us/img527/8552/s30100555tx.th.jpghttp://img527.imageshack.us/img527/7905/s30100652mp.th.jpghttp://img521.imageshack.us/img521/977/importstore18706346001482me.th.jpg
SWP-LegacyGT
Red ~ As far as install of them, if you check out the Vendor classifieds, there is a Vendor RPM Racing selling the Xtec kit for about $329 for a 35W 4500k-8000k H7 plug and play kit. Here's his post so you can check it out: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17448 The cool thing about the Xtec kits which just about everyone on this board uses is they are complete plug and play. Meaning you hook the H7 plug to the ballast ignitor, from the ballast you connect the plug to the Xenon bulb that is perfectly fitted for the H7 bulb slot and wah-la. All done. As LDC said above, the hardest part is mounting the ballasts. As far as known issues with the Xtec kit (mentioned earlier) they have a lifetime warranty so if anything happens to anything on the kit, you can get a replacement one. That being said, the bulbs we use are D2S (for projector housings) instead of the D2R bulbs which are used only for cars with reflective light housing. Anyways, if you have any more questions just ask. Also searching on this board gives a great wealth of knowledge. Oh and btw, Welcome to the board! red_suby
I live in Chicago. Do you know anyone who installs this in Chicago, IL? Thanks
red_suby
Xtec HIDs on Legacy looks fantastic. One more question? Do you know which color temp is better? Looks like most of the people here uses 6000K. Is it legal to use that much bright light?
SWP-LegacyGT
Red ~ Here's the break down of OEM Xenon's on today's current cars: Audi A4/A6 - 4800k BMW 3 series / 5 Series 5400k Acura TL / TSX 5000k That being said, the best kit for the money is a 4500k-5000k kit as you get the most "lumen" output to the road. As far as getting them installed, check out the local Midwest forum as I'm sure there's some tuning shops in your area. Best of luck. -A-
