Is it safe to build on this block?

Recommended Posts

Found this OEM short block for sale and the seller disclosed there's a "nick" on one of the decks as seen in the picture. Is it far enough away from the water sealing surfaces to not be a problem, or would it be too risky and leak prone? It would be for a ~350 whp build in a LGT.

Take that pic to someone who can Tig aluminium and ask if they’d fill it.

I wouldn’t risk the time and effort to build a block with that big of a ding near a water jacket unless it could be fixed.

Yeah I thought about getting it welded. I work with a guy who was an industrial welder for years, I'll ask him what he thinks.
