SkiDaddy
I've read probably most of the threads regarding the cubby install, and am still concerned about cutting out the 2 plastic reinforcements. Yes, the ones labeled "radio box" or some such. Living in a hot climate (Florida) I'm concerned about long term dash rattles and/or ~sagging~ due to cutting these out. Anyone had theirs cut out for over a year in a hot climate? Any issues?
SVXWRX
you could cut them so that they just clear the stereo, with enough room to insert some foam padding so that they rest on top of the stereo, which would eliminate any *potential* dash sag. scans007
Mine has been out for just about 10 months now......I haven't had any problems, nor have any signs of any problems to come.....No dash sag here
Bicster
Are there any pics of what has to be cut? I'm still trying to decide between an aftermarket head unit and a cleansweep + xm addon... It keeps me occupied while I wait for my leggy to show up...!#$(*@
SkiDaddy
Yes, I came across a write up someone did here w/pics. I don't remember what my search criteria were though. As for waiting, I feel your pain. Mine is leaving Planet Subaru today for the slooow shipment to me here in Florida.
Bicster
Judging from these pictures I found in another thread, it looks like the vertical plastic between the A/C vents is what gets cut? Or is there something else behind that? http://www.pimpmyauto.com/Pictures/Stereo%20Install/BIG/DSC01078.JPG http://www.pimpmyauto.com/Pictures/Stereo%20Install/BIG/DSC01093.JPG
scans007
Sweet that's my ride And yes that's what you have to cut..... To see the whole install go: HERE
Bicster
Thanks scans, I thought it might be yours but I wasn't sure. If that's the case, I don't see why cutting it would be a big deal. It looks like the DIN bracket itself replaces the support which is cut out ... am I right?
scans007
Yeah it basically acts as a new indirect support......Really I don't think we would ever have to worry about dash sag IMHO, remember the Dash bezel is actually made by subaru, I don't think they would make a product that could result in long term damage...but who really knows
